THE world of showbiz has been left shaken by the news that comedians Jon Richardson, 41, and Lucy Beaumont, 40 are getting divorced, after nine years of marriage.
In a joint statement earlier today, the Celebrity Gogglebox stars announced that they had ‘jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways.’
But now it seems that separation may have been on the cards for some time and the evidence was there in a Gogglebox episode from 2022.
Known for his dry-witted humour, Jon admits to Lucy that he’s watched the 1997 film Titanic, starring Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet six times. But Lucy is left unimpressed by her husband’s commercial leanings and does an impression of speaking to a family lawyer.
She says: “On what grounds are you getting divorced? He watched Titanic six times.”
The Yorkshire comedy couple was popular for their humorous sniping, which made them appear relatable. But clearly, deep-seated issues were simmering beneath the jokes.
In an interview last year, Beaumont who is a stand-up comic from Hull, made a point of saying that their bickering is just for the cameras.
She said: “It’s been great, but I see comments on social media, and people don’t seem to realise it’s not real,” she told the Sunday Post.
“I don’t henpeck – we wouldn’t have lasted this long if I was as mean to him in real life.”
On the concept for the show, she added: “You don’t want to see a smug couple in love, in a nice house, with a stable career and a lovely little child. Who wants to see that?”

The couple who have a daughter also started together in the mockumentary, Meet the Richardsons- in which they play “exaggerated versions of themselves- since 2020.
Indeed Beaumont was nominated in 2023 for a BAFTA TV award in the best female performance in a comedy programme for her role in Meet the Richardsons.
Meanwhile Jon, also a stand up performer is known for being the team captain on 8 out of 10 Cats.
The Lancaster-born comedian had his own show: Jon Richardson: Ultimate worrier which ran on Dave for two series.
