It comes after he told his fan base that he may only have a “matter of months” left after the heartbreaking diagnosis.

In a post on social media, DJ KID shared the sad news to fans this afternoon.

His Facebook post read: “It is with tremendous sadness that I announce the sad passing on Sunday afternoon of legendary Scottish DJ, producer and long-time friend Mallorca Lee, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer just 4 weeks ago. He was 51.

“During this incredibly upsetting time, my deepest sympathy goes out to Maria Mallorca’s wife his children Angel and Oceano and his extended family and friends.

“You will be deeply missed, brother, but your energy and legacy will live on.”

Popular Scots DJ George Bowie shared his heartbreak following Lee’s death and paid tribute to a “true legend”.

Along with a picture of the pair, he wrote on Instagram: “Absolutely devastated by the news of Mall’s passing.

“We had so many good times at gigs all over the country over the past 30 years.

“Should have been preparing for the Festivals we had lined up this summer.

“A true legend and pioneer of dance music in Scotland taken way too soon.

All our thoughts are with his family right now. Heartbreaking, truly heartbreaking.”

A number of fans took to the comments to pay tribute to the DJ.

One person said: “Gutting to hear this, another musical legend gone.”

Another wrote: “RIP Mallorca Lee, such a legend. Keep the tunes banging up there big guy.”

A third commented: “An absolute gentleman. Absolutely gutted.”

A fourth wrote: “Absolutely devastated, such a nice guy who will be sorely missed. Thoughts and prayers for his family and close ones.”

Lee founded the techno group Ultra-Sonic in Ayrshire in 1991, which has built up a loyal following in the rave scene.

The group were known for their hits Obsession, Love Me Right and Angels.

Lee left the band in 2003 to focus on his solo career as a DJ and producer.

Lee was diagnosed with terminal cancer just four weeks ago.

Well-wishers launched an online crowd funder to help the Scots DJ pay for medical costs.

Hundreds of donations were made in just hours after the gofundme drive went online and Ultra-Sonic’s 1994 track Obsession was sitting at number four in the UK official singles chart.

Following his diagnosis Lee apologised for not telling all of his friends and family individually in the post, as he explained he doesn’t have the “strength” to repeat it all.

He wrote: “I’ve been diagnosed with terminal cancer, the doctor said it could be a matter of months.

“I apologise for not telling all of my family and friends individually. It just breaks my heart a thousand times, and I don’t have the strength to go through it all over and over again.

“I love you all. The last 10 years have been the best of them all. It really has been wonderful.
