Neve has played the heroine in every instalment of the horror flicks but pulled out of 2023’s Scream VII after feeling like she was offered a poor pay deal.

She said back in 2022 that she had chosen to step aside because she felt because she felt “the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.”

As a result the sixth movie focused on Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega’s characters, Sam and Tara Carpenter, who had joined in the fifth film.

But the seventh film was thrown into chaos last year when Melissa was dropped from the franchise over her pro-Palestine stance on social media.

Jenna soon dropped out too, citing a clash with her commitments for the Netflix series Wednesday, but many felt she had quit in a stance of solidarity with Melissa.

For several months since, fans doubted whether the planned Scream 7 would ever see the light of day.

But Neve sent fans wild today when she confirmed she will return.

“Hi All. I’m so excited to announce this news!!! Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!! It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the Scream movies,” she wrote on social media. “My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me, has never waned.

“I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled!!!”

Neve will also reunite with Kevin Williamson, who penned the original 1996 movie, and will return to direct the upcoming film.

Kevin, who also created Dawson’s Creek, said: “It’s been nearly 30 years since my very first script, Scream, was directed by the legendary Wes Craven. I never would have predicted what it would become. Or that I would be directing the seventh installment of the franchise.

He added: “I am overcome with gratitude and excitement, and I can’t wait to take this journey with Neve and the entire Scream family as we bring back Sidney Prescott in the next chapter of the Scream franchise. Thank you to all the Scream fans. You are the gift that keeps giving. @nevecampbell See you on set.”

The movie does not have a release date confirmed yet.
