A HARRY Potter star looks unrecognisable from his hit movie role after switching up his look.

The Blackpool-born actor, 61, sported a lengthy brunette hairstyle and silver bushy beard on-set in Dublin.

David Thewlis played Remus Lupin in the hit flicks based on JK Rowing’s novels.

The character actor, who made his film debut in Little Dorrit back in 1987, starred in the entire Harry Potter film franchise from 2004 to 2011.

As his professor character, he was often seen donning a brown blazer, shirt and tie and armed with a wand.

He played the Defence of the Dark Arts professor who later chose Harry to be godfather to his son due to their close bond.

Yet during the Battle of Hogwarts, his wife was slayed by Bellatrix Lestrange.

His brunette hair was poker-straight with a fringe framing his forehead.

Yet for his latest role, The Theory Of Everything star cuts a completely different look.

Gone are the straightened locks for a frizzy, volumous style reaching to his shoulders.

His thick beard and moustache masks half of his face yet his clothing style remains formal.

As he filmed the role for Sherlock and Daughter, he donned a longline blue coat, white shirt and bronze bow tie.

He carried a wooden walking stick as he strolled on Great North George’s Street with a co-star.

Familiar face

He is also known for playing Sir Patrick Morgan/Ares in the movie Wonder Woman in 2017.

He has also secured success on the small screen in numerous roles, including in Dinotopia, Fargo and Netflix series Big Mouth.

David has also featured in fellow Netflix TV show The Sandman and in the Disney+ series, The Artful Dodger.

Off-screen

David married his partner Hermine in a secret ceremony in 2021 after “falling in love at first sight”.

The actor tied the knot with his new wife and shared the exciting news with his fans on Instagram, alongside a sweet snap.

“When I first met Hermine, she was wearing a cherry red dress with white polka dots and smoking tobacco from a clay pipe,” he detailed.

“She told me she was the retired ringmistress of a travelling flea circus. I thought she was joking, but it was true. Ça a été un coup de foudre [translated as: It was love at first sight].”

He added: “These days nobody smokes and the only rings are on our fingers. These days, sleeping beside her, I wake up laughing in the middle of the night.”

David was previously married to Anna Friel – who he split from in 2010.

He was also hitched to actress v, yet the pair divorced in 1994.
