Glynis Barber, now 68, is now a soap legend and has also enjoyed roles as Glenda Mitchell in EastEnders, DCI Grace Barraclough in Emmerdale and supervillain Norma in Hollyoaks.

The pair stood in the corridors of the ITV studios, and a delighted Martin was beaming as they posed for a snap.

He captioned his photo: “Bit of a teenage crush moment for me here.

“I used to watch Dempsey and Makepeace in the 1980s, loved the programme, loved the action and thought Glynis Barber so beautiful.

“So I was quite bashful to meet her today at This Morning but not enough not to ask for a photo.”

“I wanted to be her! My 10 year old self tried to change my name to Harriet! Still covet her hair…” one fan replied.

Another said: “I think we all had a crush on her back in the 80’s she still looks fabulous.”

And one more raved: “She hasn’t aged!”

But back in 2010, Glynis made her debut in Albert Square as Ronnie and Roxy’s mum Glenda Mitchell.

She stayed until 2017 with her final appearance coming after the deaths of her daughters on Ronnie’s wedding day.

“That was one of the toughest jobs I’ve done in terms of workload, though I was very fond of Glenda.

“She was naughty and blunt with no moral compass,” she told RadioTimes.

The actress said she’s not ruled out a return to Walford and praised her former co-stars for their work ethic.

“The door is open in theory but would they want her? Her girls are gone, there are grandchildren she barely has anything to do with, but you never know,” she continued.

“I loved working with the late Barbara Windsor, and Sam Womack and Rita Simons were such good actors.

“Doing scenes with them I’d marvel at how authentic they were. The Mitchell sisters were iconic.”
