David Gandy reveals the eye-wateringly HUGE amount of calories he eats every day – and secret hate for airfryers

BRITAIN’S most successful model David Gandy has revealed his jaw-dropping daily calorie intake.

The Dolce & Gabbana model, 44, opened up about how he maintains his statuesque figure as a special guest on Virgin Radio UK’s popular food podcast Spooning with Mark Wogan.

When asked by Mark, who is the son of late legendary broadcaster Terry Wogan, on whether he calorie counts before meals and watches what he eats, he had a surprising response.

David said: “This is a kind of a myth.

“I’ve educated myself a lot on nutrition in a world where we are not educated on nutrition at all.

“It’s a pigeonhole, the idea ‘You’re a model, you don’t eat.’ “

The Essex-native continued: “I’m 14.5 stone, six foot three guy. I need to consume about 4000 calories, if I can, a day to maintain my size.”

“I love pasta and can eat pasta afternoon, evening and everyday. I never get sick of it.”

According to the NHS website, generally, the recommended daily calorie intake is 2,000 calories a day for women and 2,500 for men.

His calorie intake number appears to almost rival the calorie intake of some of the most recognisable modern Gladiators, UFC, MMA fighters and professional wrestlers.

Gladiator star Giant – real name Jamie Christian-Johal, 37 – recently shared that he consumes 6,400 calories a day for his six foot five frame.

Last year iconic 90s WWE wrestler The Big Show shocked fans when he revealed his 18000 calorie a day diet on talkSPORT.

AIR FRYER PHENOMENON

David also revealed that he loves to deep fry his food.

He expressed his hidden resentment to the recent air fryer phenomenon, which is considered as a healthier alternative to deep frying.

Air fryer users are able to cook with less oil, seemingly providing the notion that less calories are being consumed, compared to that of deep fryers.

In September last year, Lakeland reported that an astounding 45 per cent of UK households now use an air fryer to cook.

David confessed: “I actually bought a deep fat fryer at Christmas.

“People were shocked and told me ‘No, get an air fryer instead.’

He continued: “If you’re not understanding nutrition, [you think] deep far fryers are terrible for you, but I am using a low fat vegetable oil.”

The British Vogue columnist had more myths to bust, including a perceived national perspective on over indulging in carbs and cheeses.

David explained: “In the UK, people will go, ‘I can’t touch pasta or bread, cards, oils or cheeses.

“But when you go to Italy, ever meal is bread, pastas, butters and everything else.”

“You don’t see that many fat Italian people, with Mediterranean people it’s all about the Mediterranean diet.”

“In this country, we’re still fixated on bad carbs and calories nutritionally like we were in the 70s and calorie-counting.”

“They say ‘carbs are bad for you’. When people say ‘you must watch what you eat’, I say ‘no, I pretty much eat anything.

“I just don’t eat processed food.”

He went on to explain how he enjoys an ‘anything I can find in the fridge pie’ at the weekend.

TOP MODEL

David catapulted into superstardom in the early noughties as the winner of ITV This Morning’s Male Face of 2001 competition.

He stood out in an era of more slender male models, as he is often credited for re-defining the status quo of how many perceived the image of male models.

After winning the competition, David became one of worlds most famous male models, and the UK’s most successful model in history.

In 2007, he was chosen for a coveted role as the face of Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue fragrance.

David has also fronted an array of Marks & Spencer campaigns since 2014.

The foodie admitted that running after his two children Matilda and Tabitha Isabella, as well as and walking every morning, helps him to burn off calories.
