CBBC star revealed as Jamie Laing and Vick Hope’s Radio 1 co-host in show shake up

FORMER CBBC star, Kate Thistleton is set to join Vick Hope as a new presenter on BBC Radio 1’s drivetime, following the departure of Jordan North.

The new line up, also featuring former Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing, is thought to have come as part of a major shake up at the radio station.

Manchester-born Thistleton, 34, already hosts three shows on the channel since she joined from CBBC in 2017.

Following months of rumored jostling behind the scenes, Jordan who has been a presenter at the station since 2014, left abruptly last week, before he was announced as the new breakfast show host on Capital FM, replacing Roman Kemp.

Meanwhile Jamie Laing, 35, will now take over from Jordan on the drivetime slot, after impressing bosses at the station, when he covered Mollie King’s maternity leave last year.

So now a new dreamteam will be in the driving seat for the 3.30pm to 6pm slot, to accompany commuters on their way home.

Sharing her excitement on social media, Kate wrote:

‘I am beyond thrilled to be joining Vick and Jamie on Going Home. I have loved filling in on the show for the past couple of years, working with Vick is always dreamy and I’m such a big fan of Jamie. I can’t wait for lots of fun chaos and playing the best tunes for that amazing drivetime audience, this is beyond my wildest dreams! Pinch me!’

Indeed Vick and Kate are already firm friends, as they present Radio 1’s Life Hacks, on Sundays together between 4-6pm.

Vick Hope said: In that time not only have we built a really strong, beautiful relationship with our listeners through thick and thin, but we’ve become such close friends,’

‘I’m so excited to get to work – and hang out – with each other every day and so glad our on-air journey together continues.’

Radio bosses were said to be ruthless once Jordan had expressed a desire to leave.

According to insiders, information about his departure was issued without his knowledge and he had presented his last show without realising it.

The source said: “Conversations were going back and forth between Jordan’s people and the top people at the BBC for months, and over time they deteriorated. Once he formally requested to leave, that was it – he was off air, immediately. It’s a shame it ended on such a bad note after 10 years.”

Aside from the drivetime slot it was also announced that Matt Edmondson and Mollie King will be moving to a weekday, afternoon slot soon.

The pair who hosted weekend breakfast together since 2018, will soon be heard on the 1-3pm slot, Monday to Thursday from July.
