Billy Connolly reveals health update as legendary comic, 81, says he feels ‘out of step’ amid Parkinson’s battle

The funnyman, 81, took a break from doing sketches when he started to forget his routines a few years after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2013.

Billy, who also found out that he had prostate cancer on the same day but was later given the all clear, admitted that he felt “strange” being unwell and feels “out of step”.

“Being unwell is strange. Everybody else is OK and you’ve got this thing that’s wrong… you’re out of step,” he told GB News.

As well as his memory and speech, Connolly has also suffered issues with his sense of smell and controlling his balance.

He previously said: “Recently I’ve noticed a deterioration in my balance. That was never such a problem before, but in the last year that has come and it has stayed.

“For some reason, I thought it would go away because a lot of the symptoms have come and gone away. It’s funny, that fall I had when I landed on my jaw reminded me of a thing I used to do on stage.”

Fans were heartbroken to see Connolly unable to perform anymore, but there is some good news on the horizon for those who have been missing his comedy skits.

Mike Reilly, who has collaborated with Sir Billy for over a decade, has revealed that the comedian has approached him about working on a new project.

He remained secretive, telling the Metro: “I’ve been asked about doing something else with him, which we’re in conversations about that.

“But I’m not allowed to say what it is. But it’ll be nice if it happens, it’ll be great if it happens.”

Mike insisted that he is not putting pressure on the actor and comedy legend, saying they are working on new ideas at a pace that works for Connolly.

He added: “I wouldn’t want to make these films and have these conversations with him unless he really wanted to, and he was invested. It just wouldn’t work.

“It needs to come from him. My job is just to listen and talk, ask questions and have a good time. I have a great time making these shows. I absolutely love it.”

The Scot’s most recent project, Billy Connolly Does, was a documentary series that focused on his experience of growing older.

He went into detail about what it’s like for him having Parkinson’s, and opened up about other recent health scares.

The intimate look at Sir Billy’s personal life was filmed in and around his home in Florida.
