BERNARD Hill’s The Responder co-star has shared an unseen picture of the late actor on set.

Earlier today it was revealed that The Lord of The Rings actor Bernard passed away aged 79 in the early hours of this morning.

Since the news, many have taken to social media to pay tribute to the acting legend.

Someone who worked on set of BBC’s The Responder, which Bernard starred in, took to X to share a picture of him from filming.

They wrote on the social media platform: “I know you’re not supposed to take photos on set whilst filming but having just filmed a scene with him on #TheResponder this was just too good a moment not to capture…

Bernard appeared in the first series of The Responder as Tom.

The show hit our screens in 2022.

Tonight Bernard made another appearance on the start of the second series of The Responder.

CANCELLED APPEARANCE

It comes after it was revealed Bernard ‘pulled out of a Lord of The Rings cast reunion’ at Comic Con hours before his death.

The star had been due to speak at the event in Liverpool this weekend but cancelled, telling organisers that his wife Marianna was sick.

A message posted on Comic Con’s Instagram said: “Due to Bernard’s partner being taken very ill he can no longer attend the event.

“He sends his sincere apologies and thanks you all for you understanding.”

TOUCHING TRIBUTES

Bernard’s agent Lou Coulson confirmed his tragic death to the BBC.

Many others took to social media to share their tributes.

Barbara Dickson wrote on X: “It’s with great sadness that I note the death of Bernard Hill.

“We worked together in John Paul George Ringo and Bert, Willy Russell marvellous show 1974-1975.

“A really marvellous actor. It was a privilege to have crossed paths with him. RIP Benny.”

Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, said: “Bernard Hill blazed a trail across the screen, and his long-lasting career filled with iconic and remarkable roles is a testament to his incredible talent.

“From Boys from the Blackstuff, to Wolf Hall, The Responder, and many more, we feel truly honoured to have worked with Bernard at the BBC. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this sad time.”

Bernard played a number of incredible roles over the years.

He took on the role of Captain Edward Smith in the Titanic.

The star also played King Théoden in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
