The tragic news was announced on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Saturday afternoon by Happy Mondays member Rowetta.

“So beautiful, so brave, so LOVED. We’re all going to miss you Imelda Mounfield,” she wrote.

“All my thoughts and love to Mani and your beautiful, precious boys and love to all Imelda’s family and friends.”

Ian Brown, Stone Roses’ frontman, also paid a touching tribute to Mounfield.

Mounfield, an events agent, was diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer in November 2020.

Since her diagnosis, she and Mani have hosted a number of charity events in a bid to raise funds for The Christie Hospital, The Stockport Charitable Trust and Maggie’s.

Mounfield has spoken previously about how the charities had supported her throughout her own battle with cancer.

“Cancer affects not just the person who has it, but everyone around them, and I hope that by investing in some more research, we can help alleviate some of the devastation caused to families,” she said.

Before the couple’s latest auction, she said Maggie’s had “supported us from the start”, with counselling sessions and resources to help explain to their kids the severity of cancer and its effects on the family.

“It’s a continuing battle for me, and I’ll be using their services more in the future,” she added.

Mounfield revealed to ITV last year that her diagnosis came as a shock to her and her entire family because she “wasn’t poorly”.

“The doctors didn’t know how I would respond to chemo, but I responded quite well. I’ve been on quite a big journey over the last two years,” she explained.

The news of Mounfield’s death comes less than a month after Stone Roses’ bassist, Pete Garner, died aged 61.

It’s believed he also passed away after a battle with cancer.
