Abu Dhabi implements movement permit system

A movement permit system has been implemented in the UAE’s capital.

The Abu Dhabi police announced movement permits will need to be obtained by residents in order to leave the house during the curfew hours of 10pm to 6am, while the national sterilisation programme takes place.

Similar to the process of the Dubai movement permits, Abu Dhabi residents can apply for one online.

According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, residents who are leaving the house during the curfew hours “due to an urgent matter such as hospital, pharmacy, or to buy basic needs who do not have permission, must present proof of reason for being out”.

For those who work in vital roles in the emirate during curfew hours, employers should provide the names and plate numbers of cars of staff to the Abu Dhabi Emergency Crisis and Disasters Committee.

As for those who are fined for violating rules, they will have 15 days to challenge said fine through this website.

Similar permits were put into affect in Dubai at the beginning of April. When the 24 hour lockdown was in place for the national sterilisation programme to take place, residents had to obtain permits to leave the house at any time of day.

Of course, the 24-hour curfew has now been lifted and now Dubai has the same 10pm to 6am curfew as Abu Dhabi.

However, in a statement released on the Dubai Police website, unlike Abu Dhabi, residents are only allowed to leave the house for emergencies, and they must have a permit.

“Please note that all permits will be automatically rejected except for medical emergency permits,” their clarification said.
