In a 1994, the Los Angeles Times wrote a profile on Vignon, claiming he’d “fulfilled the American image of the romantic, singing Frenchman”.
But unlike other renowned Frenchman, Vignon was able to “sing fast and passionate or gentle and slow.”
Vignon also made several appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, most notably singing a duet with Liza Minnelli on one of those occasions.
He was also a regular guest on “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson” as well as Merv Griffin’s daytime show.
Vignon is survived by his long-term partner, Suzie Summers, and his daughter, Marguerite Vignon Gaul.
He also has a second daughter, Lucy Brank, from his first marriage to the late actress Brigid Bazlen, as well as two grandchildren.
