K-pop has been sweeping the world, and it seems like it will be making its way to the Arab world soon.
Emirati superstar Ahlam, sent fans into a Twitter frenzy over the weekend when she hinted at a collaboration with leading K-pop band BTS. The seven member boy-band, have broken several records since their debut in 2013, including becoming the first group since the Beatles to earn three No. 1s in less than a year on the Billboard 200 chart.
The revelation came after a fan tweeted the singer, asking her: “Please answer me Ahlam, will there be a collaboration with BTS?”
To which the singer replied to saying: “Yes, of course there is,’’ alongside three dancing emojis.
There were no details attached to the announcement, but it was enough to spark major excitement from fans in the region and the world. This caused a buzz to the point that #AhlamxBTS started trending on Twitter. The diva, who celebrated her 51st birthday on Thursday, February 13 later acknowledged the frenzy, writing: “one tweet made up of five words has gone worldwide.”
Ahlam’s follow up to her initial tweet led fans to question the credibility of this possible collaboration. But, we have to say, seeing as how BTS are one of the biggest bands in the world, and the Emirati singer is one of the biggest artists in the region, they partnership would be an incredible one if it happens.
The K-pop group made their Middle Eastern debut back in October, playing a sold-out show at King Fahd International Stadium in Saudi Arabia. Ever since, the UAE Army’s (the nickname for their fanbase) have been taking to Twitter constantly, asking for the band to perform in the Emirates, with the hashtag #UAEwantsBTS regularly trending on the app. Fans have been insistent to the point that Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena responded to their tweets, saying, “We’ve received all your requests and trust us, we want #kpopinuae too! Your enthusiasm continues to inspire us and we’re working to bring the best to Coca-Cola Arena!”
Maybe their collaboration with Ahlam will be that thing that brings them to the UAE? We will just have to wait and see!
