      Cyprus launches ‘coronavirus safe list’ with 16 countries including the UAE

      With summer fast approaching, many countries are preparing to safely open their borders as COVID-19 vaccine drives globally are well underway.One such country preparing to welcome tourists back is Cyprus.The nation’s health ministry announced on Monday that a “coronavirus safe list” will be launched on April 1, 2021.The list features 16 countries that were previously not included on its list, including the UAE.       Watch: Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed’s heartfelt phone call with Emirati cop

      His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces, is always one to give credit where credit is due.He recently took to Twitter to publicly praise a UAE police officer who helped an elderly man whose car had broken down in Sharjah last week on one of the UAE’s busiest highways, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road.His Highness praised Sergeant Ahmed Al Hammadi for his “exceptional actions” in assisting the elderly driver, Zein Al Abideen.Following up his public message to the Emirati cop, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed had a phone call with him, further praising him for his actions.The phone call was videoed and shared on Instagram by Sharjah News, where His Highness told Sergeant Al Hammadi he “made all Emiratis proud”.“I am calling to hear your voice and to thank you for your act,” he added. “I want to greet you, because you brought honour to me, your family and people. May Allah grant you heaven for what you did.”In their conversation, His Highness also asked the police officer if there was anything he wanted, to which the sergeant replied he wished to meet him one day, something Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed would also like, too.The incident was shared by Sharjah Police earlier this week, detailing how the sergeant arrived to aid the elderly man within two minutes of being notified. Then, Sergeant Al Hammadi dutifully and safely diverted oncoming traffic.Going above and beyond, his help and support did not end there.       While we may be lucky enough to live in Dubai, it’s at the top of many people’s travel bucket lists in a post-COVID world, according to a new report.With COVID-19 restrictions hopefully set to ease in the near future, data gathered by Wego suggests Dubai as the number one destination on the list of places people wish to travel to.Used by millions every month for travel-related purposes, Wego is the one-stop travel destination platform used to make your entire wanderlust experience exhilarating. While compiling travel-related data on the platform, it suggests that tourists will start visiting their favourite destinations again as restrictions allow.Per The National, appearing at a travel conference in Abu Dhabi – ‘Travel Tourism: Where’s the Recovery’ – Wego’s chief executive Ross Veitch highlighted Saudi Arabia as an example for how the travel site measures its data.Data on the website revealed that when the Kingdom first eased restrictions in September and then in early January, there was a spike on their website of people hoping to visit Saudi.“As soon as inbound or outbound restrictions are removed, people will go,” the chief executive said.Thus, Wego has outlined the top 10 destinations where people wish to travel to which sees Dubai at the top, along with New York City, Istanbul and the Maldives.

      The UAE launches its first COVID-19 vaccine production line

      With the UAE having one of the highest COVID-19 vaccination rates in the world, the nation is now set to launch its very own vaccine production line.It was announced by His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi of the new joint project between the countries entitled ‘Life Sciences and Vaccine Manufacturing in the UAE’ which will be led by Abu Dhabi-based Group 42 in conjunction with Chinese drugmaker Sinopharm.“The UAE and China today inaugurated a new chapter in their historic and distinguished relations, under the title ‘Strategic Partnership for Humanity’,” Sheikh Abdullah said of the venture.“Today we celebrate the significant milestones achieved by our strategic partnership across all levels. We are continuing the efforts that we initiated at the onset of the COVID-19 crisis.”He added, “A partnership that sets an example to be emulated for collaboration between friendly nations in times of crises. The joint project is an added value to the international efforts being made in the face of the Covid-19 crisis which has been taking a toll on everyday lives across the world.”While Sinopharm has been in use in the UAE since last year, the vaccine produced in the UAE will be called Hayat-Vax, with Hayat meaning “life” in Arabic.The joint venture showcases the UAE’s commitment to vaccinate its entire eligible population, with the nation completing its first milestone having vaccinated half of the population by March 2021.Last week, it was confirmed by Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad bin Nasser Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, that as of Saturday 56.59 per cent of the eligible population had been vaccinated against COVID-19, while 72.89 per cent of elderly citizens and residents and those with chronic diseases had been inoculated against the disease.At present, there are four COVID-19 vaccines available in the UAE.The first vaccine to be approved in the UAE was the Sinophram vaccine, followed by the Pfizer vaccine being permitted in Dubai towards the end of last year.In January, Russia’s Sputnik V was approved for emergency use.
