Temperatures to approach 50°C in the UAE – when is the cooler weather coming?

    Lifestyle

    by Team Emirates Woman

As the scorching heat in the UAE continues, temperatures in some parts of the country are set to approach 50 degrees celsius.
According to the UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), some parts of Abu Dhabi, including Gasyoura and Razeen, could reach up to 49°C today.
Meanwhile, in other parts of the country temperatures are set to be around the 41°C mark.
And while the sweltering heat continues to rage on, it begs the question: when exactly can we expect the cooler weather to come?
There’s actually an ancient method the people of the Arabian peninsula have been using for centuries to decipher the weather, as well as timings, seasons and more – the stars.
In relation to the sign summer is coming to an end, it’s dependent on when the Suhail star – the second brightest star in the sky, which is estimated to be 313 light-years away from Earth – is spotted.
It may have felt like the sweltering summer heat has been never-ending this year, but there’s a tell-tale sign that’s appeared meaning that summer is officially drawing to a close.
The Suhail star – one of the brightest stars in the sky, which is estimated to be 313 light-years away from Earth – has been spotted.
Ibrahim Al Jarwan, a member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, previously explained to the Khaleej Times Arabs would learn “through to the stars” when hot periods would come, when the rain would come and so on.
“And by counting the stars, farmers and people in the villages knew when to plough their land, and when to sow in preparation for the rain,” he said. “People of the mainland got to know the seasons for grazing and travel, whereas those of the sea were able to know the fishing and travel seasons from the stars.”
Generally, the Suhail star makes an appearance around late August, signalling cooler weather is on the horizon.
So, hopefully, there’s not too long to wait for the very best weather to arrive in the UAE.

‘The universe has your back’: Everything to know about August’s full moon

    Lifestyle

    by Team Emirates Woman

Words by Kirstyn Lewis – Founder of the Karmic Soul
The song almost has it right, this is the dawning of the Full Moon in Aquarius.
Our Sturgeon Moon is wonderfully and spiritually connected, it is also very potent. It will be exact just before sunrise in Dubai at 5:35 am, on August 12 although you will notice it appears nearly full the evening before and after its peak.
The Moon has sidled up to Saturn who means business. He wants you to structure your thoughts and practice patience around your emotions.
Have you been working on a career change? A result is near but is still hidden from others. It’s been slow so expect this Moon cycle to reflect more on your expectations around work and what you can bring to the table. She is more instinctive and perspicacious than usual as she is on the precipice of moving into Pisces.
A visionary sense of optimism abounds, but be careful not to miss essential details related to your next move—plan for unexpected glitches. Double-check your emails, text and social or business media accounts who said what and when. Who is making a mistake?

This Aquarian moon is exceptionally intense as Venus also moves into Leo on August 12. Venus confirms you may be thinking or in the process of changing your physical environment. This is the time to experiment with a different lifestyle if you are. Do you want to explore new perspectives? Especially on a global scale? You can inspire others with your unique viewpoint; those living far away from you will be particularly interested in hearing about what you have to say. The horizon is no longer fixed, so remain open and progressive in your approach.
You’re very motivated as Mars is making a lovely aspect to Venus in Pisces, so if you are starting something new, it will be a dream partnership. This pairing will enlighten you. It will be important to be savvy with communications and technology before you start any new venture.
Venus in Leo is opposite a transformative Pluto. This will bring up power dynamics, and this is not only in love and romance. The stars suggest potential financial mismanagement closely related to foreigners or foreign places shores. Watch out for trickery and manipulation around money; you won’t want to be taken advantage of. Be mindful of international fraud and any payments made overseas on or around the full moon; a criminal element potentially lurks. Luckily Pluto in Capricorn will make sure you’re protected, as you seem to be keeping track of spending more diligently than usual.
A quiet, classy woman who oozes sex appeal can quickly fire up jealous or protective partners. Are you enjoying an overseas vacation and having too much fun? It’s all harmless in the scheme of things, although someone more controlling may not see it that way.
Although the Aquarius Moon aspect suggests anxiety and oversensitivity, know you have a right to feel safe and not threatened by another’s insecurities. Love can take on a soulful or dreamy quality despite the possible drama, so expect to compromise. You may like to point out that you are in an ideal position to make some precious career contacts for one of you (which is why you have a stranger’s number on your phone).
If you experience conflicting pressures, you may need to juggle more than usual; pay attention to the mental clarity you are blessed with on or before the Full Moon.
All these noticeable changes will ultimately favour you, so remain positive; the universe has your back.

How I Made the Leap From Full-Time to Freelancer Without Going Broke

When I tell people I work as a freelance writer, the most common question I’m asked is about how I manage with an inconsistent income. The thing is, my income isn’t all that inconsistent. Yes, I make varying amounts of money each month, but generally, I know what range to expect and make consistently more than I would at a salaried job. This setup works well for me, but it took time to get here.
Making the leap to full-time freelancing is scary for anyone—no matter how much experience you have. I had a savings safety net in place, but I couldn’t help but worry about how fast those savings were going to dwindle. It’s very fair if you’re wondering how on Earth you’re going to pay for rent, food, and transportation. Not to mention the biggest money concern that all soon-to-be freelancers have—health insurance.
The good news is that with a lot of work and patience, I soon began to not only make as much as I did at my last full-time job but much more. The fears I had were reasonable, but I’m happy to report that I now know that my current income ceiling is so much higher than when I worked full-time. I’m not a big fan of gatekeeping career success—so here’s how I made the full-time to freelance transition without going broke.

    I Built A Freelance Resume
While the experience you gain from having a full-time job does translate to being good at freelancing, many clients like to see that the freelancers they hire have experience working for themselves. This is understandable as the clients need to know that the freelancer they’re working with can manage to work with multiple clients at once, can work independently (for the most part), and can stay on top of deadlines without having a manager check in on them.
I freelanced consistently outside of my salaried jobs from 2015-2018 (the year I quit my last 9-5 job). Not only was I able to build up a portfolio that helps me sell my services to clients by doing freelance work on the side, but I built my network which made it easier to find more work when I was ready to freelance full-time. Starting from scratch with no salary or benefits on my side probably wouldn’t have worked out all that well for me.
I’d like to give a shout-out to The Everygirl for being one of my first freelance clients all the way back in 2016!

    I Found Clients Before Quitting
Because I had a robust freelance network on my side, before I even put in my two-week notice, I arranged for freelance work. This led to a small amount of overlap between having a full-time job and working for myself, but it was worth working a few late nights on freelance projects to keep the transition from full-timer to solopreneur smooth.
I would highly recommend balancing a full-time role and freelance work for a few weeks before quitting your job. It takes a while to drum up work and get projects rolling—even after a client hires you, it can take weeks to get everything in order to start working together and even longer to get paid. By starting early while you still have a steady income coming in, you can really reduce your stress levels when you do start your first day as a full-time freelancer.

    I Took on Part-Time Work
Freelancing, side-hustling, consulting, call it whatever you want—work is work. Before I quit my job, I arranged a freelance job that was more like a part-time role as it required being available for 15-20 hours per week. Nowadays, I try to spread out my sources of income much more than this, but at the time, having much-guaranteed work was a game changer. I knew I could make enough money to pay my bills while I built out the rest of my freelance business, and I still had 20 or so hours a week to do that. Taking on a part-time role may feel like the opposite of freelancing, but doing so can make it a lot easier to focus on strategically building out other areas of your business.
If you’re always stressed about money, you’ll end up making desperate decisions when accepting new clients and rates. Having a steady stream of income until you have your feet firmly on the ground can be what stops you from having to return to a full-time job.

    I Had an Emergency Fund
I can’t stress this enough—save and plan for freelancing. As I just mentioned, being stressed about money doesn’t do your freelancing business any favors. Having some money set aside in an emergency fund to help you fill in the gaps those first few months can buy you time, which is extremely valuable as a freelancer. It takes time to start a business—especially a thriving one.
An emergency fund can also be really helpful when waiting for your first paychecks to come in. I often don’t get paid for the work I do until 30 or more days after I submit an invoice for a project, so having money already waiting for me in the bank makes it so that I don’t have to sweat it if an invoice is a bit late.
If you’re unhappy at your job or are itching to start a new adventure, it’s hard to be patient. When my freelancing work started to pick up steam in 2015, I knew that’s what I wanted to do for a career, but I waited. It was a long and hard wait, but spending a few years building up my freelance business on the side, learning on the job at my full-time jobs, and building my savings are what made it possible to build a sustainable freelancing business that I get to enjoy today.

Wellness Girlies Are Raging about Sea Moss Gel—I Asked Experts If It’s Worth the Hype

Just when you thought you’ve seen and tried every wellness trend, a new one pops up. If your algorithm on Instagram or TikTok is anything like mine, then sea moss has probably graced your screen a handful of times. You may have seen it as an added ingredient in Hailey Bieber’s viral $17 Strawberry smoothie from Erewhon or from people stepping into their “wellness era” by having a spoonful a day and sharing their experience on TikTok, but if you’re still wondering “WTF is it?!,” keep reading as I share whether or not it’s worth the hype. Of course, I turned to the experts to share all of the health benefits that this viral superfood has to offer and to find out if we should really be adding it to our wellness routines.

    In this article

    WTF is sea moss?
Sea moss, otherwise known as Irish moss, may be a new phenomenon for many, but its healing properties have actually been common knowledge for those living on the coasts of North America, the Caribbean, and Europe. In fact, the Irish have actually used its nutrient-dense qualities as medicine since the 1800s, and Jamaicans have used it to make a creamy and delicious drink that they consider to be a “love potion,” as it is believed to increase libido. This superfood is a species of red algae and has a gelatinous consistency, making it very easy to turn into powders or pastes, easily blendable for smoothies, and a great agent for thickening foods and formulas.

    What are the health benefits?
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I’d like to think that we could all reach an agreement that sea moss doesn’t exactly scream this looks delicious. So the main motivator to incorporate this superfood is its nutrients and their benefits. “Sea moss may help support your immune system and your gut health, due to it being a good source of fiber and good bacteria,” explained Kylene Bogden, MS, RDN, a Sports Dietician and Nutrition Expert trained in functional medicine. As a strong source of fiber, sea moss is commonly used as a prebiotic. As an aid for creating more healthy bacterial growth, it can lead to better immunity.
Jordan Dorn, a certified holistic nutritionist, agreed that the recommended daily intake (1-4 tablespoons, or 4-8 grams), contains essential amino acids, vitamin C, vitamin A, omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and 92 of the 102 minerals that our bodies need, including zinc, iodine, iron. And we can’t forget about the beauty benefits. The powerhouse ingredient is extremely rich in Taurine, a sulfur that contains amino acids, which, when ingested, can help the body to produce collagen.
Of course, it is always important to consult with your healthcare provider first before adding any supplement or food to your diet, but the superfood may be more than just a TikTok fad, thanks to the extensive history of eating sea vegetables for health benefits in various parts of the world and how many nutrients sea moss packs in a small serving.

    What does it taste like?
Unlike some superfoods that have a strong flavor that can sometimes overpower what you’re eating, like coconut or ginger, sea moss has a very mild taste. With that being said, the flavor is a little earthy and is very similar to seaweed or even oysters but is easily masked when added to smoothies, soups, or desserts. Whether you’re eating it raw, making a gel yourself, or purchasing a gel or paste at a store, the consistency is sticky and thick and can range from slightly crunchy to soft.

How do I add it into my wellness routine if I don’t want to eat it plain?
    1. Add it to smoothies or sauces
When sea moss is in a gel or paste, it makes for a great addition to smoothies, sauces, or stews because it can also work as a thickener for a richer consistency. As delicious as Hailey Bieber’s Erewhon smoothie is (I had to see what the hype was all about), purchasing it for $17 is unjustifiable for many (and rightfully so). Here is a personal recipe I’ve used that’s easy, cost-effective, and delicious:
    3-4 dates, pitted
    1/2 banana
    1 tsp vanilla extract
    1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
    2 tbsp sea moss gel
1/4 cup nut butter (I usually go for almond or cashew butter)
1 cup of milk of choice

    2. Topically
Good news if ingesting the sea moss sounds awful to you. “When applied topically, the amino acids boost your skin’s production of collagen, revealing firmer, glowing skin,” explained Lesley Thorton, holistic esthetician and the founder of skincare brand KLUR. “In skincare, it works as both a humectant and emollient, making it highly beneficial for all skin, especially individuals that are dry and easily irritated.” Since sea moss is so high in vitamins and minerals, it makes for a super-ingredient on the skin too, thanks to its anti-inflammatory and glow-boosting properties (and might even help conditions like acne, eczema, or psoriasis).

    3. Supplements
If you’re a “texture person” or not a fan of the flavor, taking it in capsules is a perfect way to still take advantage of all of the health benefits of sea moss. Juliana Tamayo MS, RDN, a clinical dietician based in Washington, D.C., recommends Oweli’s Organic Sea Moss Veggie Capsules for those who’d rather take a simple route of incorporating supplements into their daily routine. If you don’t want to take a pill, a powdered version is a great option to add to any recipes without the texture of sea moss gel.
