Her second Netflix project
It is a busy time for Bollywood actress, Priyanka Chopra with another project announced. It was revealed that Aravind Adiga’s Man Booker-winning novel,, is getting the Netflix treatment, which will star the 37-year-old star.
The streaming giants made the announcement today, confirming that Indian actor Rajkummar Rao and Priyanka will both play a pivotal role in bringing the popular book to life. Filming is set to take place in India this autumn, and will be directed by the man behind Fahrenheit 451, Ramin Bahrani.
was Adiga’s debut novel, which follows Balram Halwai, a village boy. Using a dark sense of humour to tackle deep issues, the author gives us an insight into India’s class struggle in a globalised world. By following Balram’s journey first to Delhi and then Bangalore, the novel examines issues of religion, caste, loyalty, corruption and poverty in India.
Priyanka commented on being part of the film, saying: “I’m so excited to work with Ramin Bahrani and Netflix to bring Aravind Adiga’s poignant story to cinematic life. When I read the book, I was fascinated with the perspective of the narrative. The story’s portrayal of raw ambition and the extent one will go to achieve one’s goals is riveting.”
“I look forward to filming this in India this fall, and also working along with Rajkummar Rao for the first time and the wonderful cast Ramin is putting together,” she continued.
This is not Priyanka’s first project with Netflix, as she has signed onto their latest superhero flick, The movie will be written, produced and directed by Robert Rodriguez, who was behind the franchise. It will feature a diverse cast, including: Christian Slater, Boyd Holbrook, Sung Kang and Pedro Pascal. The film will tell the story of alien invaders who kidnapped Earth’s superheroes leaving a group of children to team up with their parents to save the world. Not much is known about Priyanka’s role, but she is expected to play one of the parents.
