    Tributes flow in after founder of leading UAE salon chain passes away

    The founder of leading UAE salons, Negin Fattahi-Dasmal, has sadly passed away after a 13-year battle for cancer.
    With a passion for thriving within the beauty industry in the region, her resilience and spirit will continue to live on as she has inspired many other women around her.

    While founding various incredible salons such as N.Bar, 1847 and JetSet, Negin was also a mentor to many as she playing an incredible part in growing the beauty industry in the region.

    In a tribute shared to the Jet Set Dubai Instagram page, the team shared their heartbreak over Negin’s passing.
    “N.Bar, 1847 & JetSet have lost a visionary, and those that were fortunate enough to work and know Negin have all lost an incredible friend and inspiring mentor,” their statement read. “Negin’s passion, innovative nature, and pure brilliance changed the region’s beauty industry 20 years ago, and her spirit will forever live on in our brands as we navigate through this difficult time.
    “We will never find the words to express our sadness, but we find comfort in knowing that her legacy will live on through our dedication to the work that she loved so much.”
    Negin is survived by her husband Salem and their four children: Kian, Alia, Noor and Amir.

    Hailey Baldwin reveals the workout that keeps her ‘body in the best shape’

    If you’re currently on the hunt for some fitness inspiration or looking to change up your exercise routine, perhaps Hailey Baldwin Bieber might be able to help as she’s just spilled the beans on what her trick is to staying fit.

    Speaking on the Women’s Health Going for Goal podcast, Bieber revealed she’s a huge fan of Pilates and boxing.
    “I’ll do a couple of sessions a week in the gym, weight training and cardio, I used to be a ballet dancer so Pilates for me gets my body personally in the best shape because it’s very elongating,” she explained. “A lot of the movements in Pilates are very similar to dance.
    “And I think that’s why I identify with and like it so much.”
    Previously in an interview with Byrdie in 2018, she revealed she does an occasional detox cleanse which helps her to reset, especially before big events such as Fashion Week.
    She also prioritises protein and vegetables in her foods, making sure she follows a balanced diet.

    While Bieber is an advocate for being healthy physically, she’s also a hugely comitted to taking care of her mental health as she believes in including positive habits in her daily routine, as she also deals with anxiety.

    8 heartwarming Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid moments

    From inspiring the residents of UAE to empowering the female workforce, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, has always managed to share heartfelt moments with the people of the nation and with everyone from around the globe.
    Emirates Woman has gathered a list of those special moments which are truly worth remembering over the years.
    When he met his biggest fan

    Four years ago, in January 2017, the Mohammed bin Rashid Government Excellence Award ceremony was held at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi.

    Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum presented policewoman Halima Al Matroushi the award for Best Administrative Employee. However, chose not to receive the award herself. Instead, she let her mother take her place up on stage.
    Al Matroushi’s mother has always dreamt of meeting Sheikh Mohammed, so when her daughter realised it was a possibility, she gave her the opportunity.
    Being a proud father
    Upon the launch of the UAE Food Bank in 2017, Sheikh Mohammed expressed his pride at his then 15-year-old daughter, Sheikha Shamma, taking part.
    “Proud of my daughter Shamma who contributed today in the first volunteering activity as part of UAE Food Bank initiative,” His Highness said of his daughter. “Our philosophy in humanitarian work is simple… Always lead by example.”
    He praises Emirati student upon her graduation
    Last year, His Highness sent a heartfelt message to an Emirati student who has graduated from university.
    The Ruler of Dubai, first met student Fatima Ahmad Bin Bakhit Al Nuaimi four years ago, posted the sweet message on Twitter.

    “I had laid a kiss on my daughter’s head in 2016 as she ranked first at the state level in the reading challenge,” His Highness said. “Yesterday, my daughter Fatima Al Nuaimi graduated from Abu Dhabi New York University with distinction.
    “Congratulations. The country flourishes with you, thrives in reading and rises with knowledge.”
    Along with the message, Sheikh Mohammed shared two photos – one of their first meeting in 2016 and one of Al Nuaimi’s recent remote graduation.
    He went on a search for young astronauts for a brighter future
    At the start of December in 2017, he put the call out for young people who were keen to be the first Emiratis in space.
    “The people of the UAE will break new barriers; nothing can stand in the way of those who believe nothing is impossible,” Sheikh Mohammed wrote on Instagram. “Our ambitious goals are fuelled by dedicated people, who support us until, without hesitation or scepticism, we succeed.”
    When he made Queen Elizabeth II laugh

    Back in 2017, Sheikh Mohammed met with the UK’s Queen Elizabeth II at the Royal Windsor Endurance Race, and from the looks of things, they had a great time together. At the time, the Dubai Media Office said the pair of royals discussed “historic ties, friendship, and co-operation between the UAE and the United Kingdom”.
    When he sent 30 tonnes of aid to Lebanon following the blast in Beirut
    After the catastrophic explosion in Lebanon leaving around 300,000 people homeless and many injured, His Highness ordered 30 tonnes of medicines and medical supplies to be sent immediately on his personal aircraft in response to the devastating blast.

    Opening a Dhs300 million Dubai medical research centre
    In August last year, the Ruler of Dubai opened a new medical research centre has opened in Dubai not only studies COVID-19, but also other communicable diseases under. The Dhs300 million centre aims to study an array of diseases including diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, obesity and more.

    Praising the women of the nation
    Honouring women across the UAE, the Ruler of Dubai issued a message.
    Posting a video to his 10.3 million Twitter followers which paid tribute to Emirati women, he expressed his pride towards every female from the UAE.
    “To the Emirati women, you worked hard, you accomplished and prove to the world who you are,” he said. “[We are] proud of you, proud of your partnership in the development process, we raise our heads with your achievements. Every year you are better and more beautiful.”

    Saudi Arabia suspends travel from 20 countries including the UAE

    Saudi Arabia has implemented a temporary ban on entry to the Kingdom from 20 countries, including the UAE, in order to curb the spread of COVID-19.

    It was announced via the Saudi Press Agency from an official from the Kingdom’s Ministry of Interior that the suspension would be implemented from February 3.
    This suspension applies to all travellers who are coming from any of the listed countries or are transiting through the listed countries.
    However, those who are diplomats, Saudi citizens, medical practitioners and their families are exempt from the ban.
    The 20 countries that are suspended from entering the Kingdom include: UAE, Germany, USA, UK, South Africa, France, Egypt, Lebanon, India, Pakistan, Argentina, Brazil, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Portugal, Sweden, Swiss Confederation and Turkey.

    The iconic Tokyo-based Kill Bill restaurant has opened its doors in Dubai

    The iconic restaurant Gonpachi, famed for its role in the hit movie Kill Bill, has officially opened its doors in Dubai.
    It’s the first branch for the famed restaurant to open outside of Japan – where seven Gonpachi restaurants dotted around the country – and will offer authentic cuisine which includes sushi, tempura, kushi-style grilled skewers and fresh soba noodles.

    Located in Business Bay at the Boulevard at Al Habtoor City, the restaurant is set to transport you to the “Japan of a bygone era” with its “nostalgic atmosphere”.

    Many will know Gonpachi Nishi-Azabu from the infamous fight scene in Quentin Tarantino’s 2004 film Kill Bill.
    It’s also the same establishment which hosted former-US President Bush and former-Prime Minister Koizumi’s Izakaya Summit.
    Gonpachi is bound to be a go-to on your restaurant list, especially now its set to launch a Friday brunch and hosts a business lunch for Dhs125 for three courses and Dhs150 for four courses Sunday to Thursday.

    A complete guide to all of the new COVID-19 protocols in Dubai

    Amidst the rising COVID-19 cases in the UAE, Dubai announced on Monday evening stricter protocols would be put in place up until February 28.
    Prior to this, new travel updates were put in place for passengers arriving into Dubai.

    With that, here’s your complete guide to all of the current COVID-19 protocols in place in Dubai.
    Dubai travel
    It was announced last week by the Dubai Supreme Committee for Crisis and Disaster Management via the Dubai Media Office that the new updates would come into effect on Sunday, January 31.

    Firstly, all UAE citizens must do a COVID-19 PCR test upon arrival in Dubai no matter which country they have travelled from.
    Meanwhile, all UAE residents, GCC citizens and visitors will now be required to undergo a pre-travel COVID-19 PCR test regardless of where they are travelling from and the validity time of tests is now 72 hours, reduced from 96 hours.
    It was also stated, “Arrivals from some countries (based on the COVID-19 situation there) may be required to undergo an additional test when landing in Dubai.”
    Malls
    Malls can only operate at a maximum of 70 per cent capacity.
    Restaurants
    Live entertainment in venues was suspended a couple of weeks ago and now restaurants and cafes are required to close by 1am.
    Pubs and bars
    All pubs and bars are to remain closed.
    Hotels
    Hotels are to operate at 70 per cent capacity, with new bookings to comply with the capacity limit. Meanwhile, swimming pools and private beaches in hotels to be limited to a 70 per cent capacity.
    Seated indoor venues
    Indoor seated venues including cinemas, entertainment venues and sports venues can now only operate at 50 per cent. a 50% reduction in the capacity of indoor seated venues including cinemas and entertainment and sports venues,
    Tougher penalties
    As per the new laws imposed, there will be tougher penalties for deliberately disregarding preventive measures, while the public is encouraged to report violations by individuals or establishments through Dubai Police’s Call Centre 901 or its ‘Police Eye’ service through Dubai Police Smart App.

    While scaling to new heights before the end of 2020, Sheikh Hamdan is seen scaling the sky-high building with his video amassing over 900,000 views and over 10,000 comments. He also showcases how high he is as he points the camera directly below him showing the busy Dubai highway and other buildings below. Well, this is not the first time he managed to do this, he also scaled to the top around seven years ago.
