Trend for 2020
With everyone spending more time indoors, naturally people are turning their attention to creating Instagram-worthy interiors, and an emerging love for rattan furniture hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Rattan chairs and benches have become a key props for many Instagram posts, whether it’s to showcase the latest #WFH outfit or to casually position a favourite handbag, this modern bohemian style has made it’s way indoors.
Usually associated with outdoor lounging, rattan has made it’s way into offices and living rooms. Perhaps that stems from our desire to bring more natural elements into our home, or maybe it’s because it simply looks good.
This season the 1970s staple has had a facelift. No longer rustic or free spirited, rattan has been tailored into a modern statement piece that adds a balanced character to a space. It’s like mixing your favourite Zimmermann dress with a Balenciaga blazer, the contrast works surprisingly well.
Forget the heavy rattan seats, and instead choose slender shapes with woven, almost transparent panels. Look for wider shapes and low legs. Our top combination is neutral rattan panels mixed with a dark wood frame.
