Netflix is set to premiere its first Saudi Arabian original series tomorrow

Managed to get through the list of June releases already? Fear not as Netflix has something really exciting for us in the region, and beyond.

Tomorrow (June 11) the streaming giant will premier it’s first Saudi Arabian original series which already is gaining a lot of attention for it’s reported portrayal of modern life in the Kingdom.

Titled  a tense family thriller follows the wife played by Shaimaa Al Fadl and daughters Sawsan (Norah Al Anbar) and Waad (Nada Tawhid) of Hassan as they try to uncover his mysterious death.

“These kind of Saudi female characters are not shown to both international and Arabic audiences,” writer and director Hana Al Omair told The National.  “The series also talks about modern life in Saudi Arabia that not many people have seen before, because it has rarely been presented that way.”

With strong female leads, the eight-part series is a much shorter run to other Gulf dramas that usually span across 30 episodes during Ramadan.

This series will leave you on the edge of your seat pace with the story being retold through the eyes of different characters, the ‘who did it?’ theme will resonate with every Netflix binger as well as fans of mysteries.

Shining an international spotlight on regional talent, will be available globally and comes complete with translations in up to 30 languages.

“We are thrilled to be offering the new series to all our users in 190 countries and to be giving them the chance to discover great Arabic content that is full of mysterious twists,” Nuha Eltayeb, director of content acquisitions for the Middle East, North Africa and Turkey at Netflix, said.

And that’s not it, there will be more Arabic series coming to the network in the future including and comedy drama starring Tunisian actress Hend Sabry.
