Ramadan is expected to begin on April 24, according to a UAE astronomer.
Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Member of the Arab Union for Astronomy and Space Sciences, told newspaper, he explained “the crescent of Ramadan will be born on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at 06:26am”.
As a result, the moon will be visible to the human eye at sunset on the same day, which means fasting will be set to begin on Friday, 24 April.
According to the UAE astronomer, fasting is expected to be less than 15 hours a day this year. At the beginning of the Holy Month, fasting hours will be around 14 hours and 25 minutes. Towards the end of Holy Month, fasting will be just shy of 15 hours at 14 hours and 57 minutes.
The end of Ramadan is expected to be on Sunday, May 24, meaning Holy Month will last for 30 days this year. The end of Ramadan marks the beginning of Shawwal and the sighting of a new moon marks Eid Al Fitr.
The official start dates for Ramadan and Eid in the UAE will be confirmed by the moon-sighting committee.
