6 new Netflix series and documentaries to watch in June

Never-ending streaming

After weeks in lockdown, we feel like we have watched (and re-watched) everything that is worth tuning into on Netflix.

The streaming network has clearly picked up our demand for new content, and subsequently unveiled a healthy number of new series and documentaries to get your peepers on in June.

Yes cinemas, gyms and certain activities have resumed normal-ish operations, but it doesn’t mean you won’t have an evening to Netflix and chill.

Spelling the Dream, available June 3

If you want to meet six-year-olds that have a wider vocabulary than you, then grab your dictionary and tune into this new documentary. Following four hopeful competitors, it explores Indian Americans’ decades-long success at the biggest spelling contest in the USA – The National Spelling Bee.

13 Reasons Why Season 4, available June 5

If you’ve been hooked since season one then you won’t be able to take your eyes of the fourth and final season of this high school drama. Clay Jensen once again lands in the centre of a series of heartbreaking mysteries set in motion by a friend’s tragic suicide.

DA 5 Bloods, available June 12

From Spike Lee, the war drama follows four African American veterans as they travel back to Vietnam to find their squad leaders remains, and recover gold he helped them hide.

The Politician: Season 2, available June 19

Loved the over dramatised series following extremely privileged students competing to be student body president? So did we. The second season picks up where we left off, but this times the stakes are much higher as Payton Hobart (Ben Platt) aims to unseat Senate Majority Leader in New York. We hope to see more of Gwyneth Paltrow’s fabulousness too.

The Sinner: Season 3, available June 19

The new season marks the return of Bill Pullman as police detective Harry Ambrose as he investigates a seemingly simple car crash where the driver died and the passenger survived. But things are never as straight forward as they appear.

Athlete A, available June 26

An eye-opening documentary that takes an in-depth look at the toxic culture of elite gymnastics. It follows Indianapolis Star reporters that broke the story about USA Gymnastics doctor’s abuse and showcases interviews with athletes like Maggie Nichols.
