Experience like no other.
Following a beautiful wedding in France last month, singer Joe Jonas and his actress wife Sophie Turner are currently on their honeymoon in the Maldives.
The pair have chosen a Robinson Crusoe-style resort Soneva Sushi, located a 30-minute seaplane ride from Male.
Embracing the “no news, no shoes” ethos, the hideaway is an eco-chic jungle with each villa offering a unique experience.
Newlyweds have been spotted riding bicycles through the lush green island foliage, relaxing and sampling Chef’s speciality sushi dishes at Out of the Blue and enjoying the resort’s signature water slide leading into the pristine azure waters of the Maldivian Atoll.
Taking to Instagram to share the experience with their fans Joe posted an array of photos, captioning one “I found happiness #discoversoneva,” a nod to his new album Happiness Begins. Turner too posted photos on her Instagram platform, citing “Paradise, such a magical place #discoversoneva.”
Here’s what you need to know.
They’re serious about sustainability.
Many of the resorts in the Maldives strive to educate their guests on the importance of looking after the marine life, and several have rehabilitation centres for turtles. Soneva Fushi’s eco approach goes a few steps further by reusing materials for the hotel. There is a a recycling centre, solar power plant and a glass-blowing studio that turns waste into glasses and works of art. There’s also a vegetable garden with free-roaming rabbits. Their aim is to be completely self sufficient and reduce waste, even when they refurbish.
Be our guest
Inspired by the character ‘Friday’ in the Robinson Crusoe novel by Daniel Defoe, every guest is assigned a Mr or Ms Friday butler. From dinner reservations to booking unique experiences including manta ray snorkelling and outdoor cinema screening, you are guaranteed a flawless stay.
Ever wanted to live in a tree house?
We were treated to a tour of some of their top villa’s and we have no doubt that Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas are staying in one of these exceptional spaces. Each of the 65 villas is fitted out with driftwood furniture, TV’s hidden in trunks and outdoor bathrooms that are larger than the rooms. One of our favourite premium villas was villa 15. Set over two floors, it was built around a tree making you feel like you are living in the most luxurious tree house. Oh, and there’s a slide into the pool from the second floor.
