Dubai-based YouTuber and social media star Khalid Al Ameri just shared the sweetest and most heartfelt tribute to his wife, whilst shutting down people who assume he wants her to “change”.
Taking to TikTok, the 36-year-old reposted a video originally posted to his Facebook page in 2018 telling his 900,000 followers he receives a lot of direct messages from people about his wife Salama Mohamed ‘s skin condition.
Salama has suffered from vitiligo, a condition where patches of skin on the body lose their pigment causing them to appear white, since she was young.
“I know this might be a surprise to a lot of you, but a lot of people send me direct messages of formulas or medicines that Salama can take to get rid of her skin condition,” he explained.
However, Al Ameri was quick to shoot down those who were making “assumptions” about him and his wife.
“Why do people make the assumption I want her to change?” he said. “Why do people make the assumption that she wants to change?”
The UAE vlogger then went on to make a poignant statement about what love really is, and what marriage means to him.
“I see a lot of men marrying women in the hopes they can change them into something that they want,” he said. “But that’s not what love and marriage and relationships are all about.
“Because if you’re trying to change them, then you don’t love them for who they are. You love them for what you can make them, you love them for something else they can be.”
Al Ameri, who has two children with Salama, then made the sweetest declaration of love about Salama stating he loves her “just the way she is”.
“I married Salama just the way she is,” he said. “I love her just the way she is and those are things about her I don’t want to change.
“On the contrary, they’re something I want to be a part of for the rest of our lives together.”
What a beautiful message, and something we all need to implement into our own lives.
