With more Emirates flights set to relaunch in the coming weeks, we can expect Dubai Airport to become busier than it has been in many months.
Most flights have been on hold since March due to the COVID-19 outbreak, with only limited repatriate services running and cargo flights continuing. This has meant the majority of airport luxuries travellers are used to, including restaurants and duty-free have been closed.
However, that’s all now changed in Dubai Airport as duty-free has now reopened after being temporarily suspended on March 25, which means passengers can now treat themselves to a special in-transit gift.
Duty-free services have partially reopened in the retail area in Concourse B – West at Dubai International Airport, as announced by Dubai Media Office.

In-keeping with precautionary measures already implemented around the airport, social distancing measures are in place with floor markings. Similarly, there’s also a one shopper one trolley policy; Perspex screens at checkouts, like at airport check-ins, have been installed; and contactless payments are preferred.
There’s also a concierge service that has been introduced where travellers can order their desired products at the concierge counter, and they will be delivered to customers by duty-free staff. Dubai Airport’s previously launched click and collect service is also back in action.
According to Dubai Duty-Free’s Executive Vice Chairman & CEO, Colm McLoughlin, plans have been in place to relaunch duty-free services have been in the works for quite some time.
”We were very pleased to receive the approval from the Government authorities to open our shops in Concourse B-West and we are happy to be back and serving our customers once more,” he explained. “We have been planning the re-opening since mid-April and have put in place an extensive range of sanitisation and re-zoning measures that will ensure the safety of our customers and our staff.”
He also added that retail operations will resume in Terminal 2 later this week.
