    Here’s Exactly How To Become A Legit Morning Person

    For some of us, sticking to a 10.30 pm bedtime is impossible. And jumping out of bed at the first sound of the alarm? LOL.Sound familiar? Welcome to the Night Owl Club. “It used to be believed that it was just your lifestyle [that determined whether you were a lark or a night owl],” says professor David Earnest. “What was discovered 15 to 20 years ago was there is a biological basis for people who are early birds and people who are night owls.”Our internal circadian clocks are to blame. In fact, researchers have found a genetic difference between those who wake up early and those who don’t, explains Earnest. “Presumably, the situation with night owls is the same,” he says.The good news is, most of us grow out of it around the time we swap late-night college parties for the morning meetings that come with adulthood. “The majority of us fall someplace in the okay range, where we’re not either of the extreme prototypes,” says Rebecca Spencer, associate professor of neuroscience at University of Massachusetts Amherst.But let’s say you don’t grow out of it, and you seriously struggle to make it to work on time – let alone to a 6am indoor cycling class. You’re not alone if you feel like you’re being pulled in two different directions. “Our internal body clocks are trying to tell us one thing, but then we have these societal factors that don’t allow us to do what our bodies are naturally telling us to do,” says Earnest.If there’s no chance your boss will ease up on your start time, there’s only one thing left to do: try to become more like a morning person. “Can you really shift from being an owl to a lark?” says Spencer. “Not at all. But if you’re not an extreme owl and want to be a little more lark-like, I think that’s where you have some flexibility.”Start by trying to shift your internal clock by an hour or so, suggests Spencer. Here’s how…Lower Your Body Temperature at Night“To fall asleep and get into deep sleep, you have to reach your daytime low body temperature,” says Spencer. To get there, move your workout to earlier in the day so it doesn’t interfere with bedtime, limit hot showers at night and drop the temp in your house by a few degrees, she says. The cosy duvet on your bed will be calling your name in no time.Limit Your Night-Time Exposure To LightYour internal clock is controlled by light. “Whether it’s TVs or screens, all of those devices that shine light at our eyes are ‘awake-promoting’ and not ‘sleep-promoting,’” says Spencer. Help your clock start to shift naturally by cutting your exposure an hour before bedtime. Not ready to kick your series-in-bed habit? Turning your iPad light to low could help you catch Zzz’s more quickly after the credits roll.Resist StimuliYou don’t need to shut yourself off from the outside world, but it’s a good habit to stay calm as it gets late. That means avoiding stressful work emails if they can wait until the morning, horror movies and intense novels that keep your mind spinning. “All of those things just cause mental stimulation that you need to have turned off well enough before bedtime,” says Spencer. Sorry, Dream Count. You’re strictly a commute-only read.READ MORE: Here’s How To Actually Do A Digital Detox, According To ExpertsReach For Melatonin As A Last ResortIn the beginning of your efforts to become a morning person, a dose of melatonin can help. “Taking it a little before you want to start falling asleep helps give you a little extra boost to feel sleepy,” says Spencer. Once you’re stable, lay off, though. Eventually, you want to rely on your body’s natural melatonin production rather than the pill form.READ MORE: The Greatest Sleepytime Products That’ll Take You To La-La Land, STATWake Up To Morning LightGetting to sleep is only half the battle. “Helping yourself wake up is just as important as helping yourself fall asleep,” says Spencer. Immediately open your curtains or head outside to catch some early rays. As a bonus, early to rise likely means early to bed that night. “If you’re able to alert yourself and wake up at an earlier hour, you’re going to be more prepared to go to bed at an earlier time,” says Spencer. And that means you’ll be even closer to tricking your internal clock into its new pattern.Stick With ItWaking up early today doesn’t mean you’ll magically be a cheerful morning person tomorrow. It takes time – possibly up to a month – to switch your natural habits, says Spencer. Yes, you can groan now.Looking for more info on sleep? The 12 most exciting Dubai restaurant openings in 2025

    Life

    by Alice Holtham-Pargin
    50 seconds ago

    From celeb-adored London icons to homegrown supper clubs making their roots in the city…
    Dubai’s diverse and vibrant culinary scene offers something for everyone, from romantic date nights to glamorous fine dining institutions and casual eateries for relaxed alfresco lunches. But this year, a new injection of haute hotspots is set to make dining in Dubai even more fabulous.
    Here, Emirates Woman brings you the most exciting restaurant openings to look forward to in 2025.
    Scott’s

    This elegant seafood restaurant is somewhat of a fine dining institution in London. Everyone from the British royals to actors including Tom Hanks and Salma Hayek have been spotted enjoying glasses of bubbly from the extensive wine list and plates of fresh seafood at Mayfair’s beloved Scott’s. And later this year it’s set to bring that quintessential glamour to Dubai’s DIFC, slated to open in Gate Village in September.
    @scottsmayfair
    Carbone

    New York’s impossible-to-get-into Carbone has chosen an iconic address for its Dubai debut: Atlantis The Royal. In a resort where you’ll already find hotspots like Milos and Ling Ling, Carbone is set to bring its glamourous take on New York-style Italian to Dubai later this year. Expect famed signatures like the spicy rigatoni, linguine vongole and veal parmesan to be served up by tuxedo-clad service captains in a venue of velvety jewel-hues and across a buzzing alfresco terrace.
    @carbone.dxb
    Hanu

    Opening imminently at St Regis Gardens is Hanu, a new homegrown concept from Sunset Hospitality – the culinary creators behind Signor Sassi, Sushisamba and Mott 32 in Dubai. While the city may be saturated with Italian, Japanese and Mediterranean restaurants, Hanu promises a new take on contemporary Korean cuisine, a largely untapped market in Dubai’s dining scene. At the culinary helm, chef Kyung Soo Moon, responsible for making Sushisamba one of Dubai’s most talked-about dining destinations, who promises to present bold takes on Korean classics. Tables featuring charcoal grills will allow for interactive dining, where guests can grill their own meat to order.
    @hanu_dubai
    Girl and the Goose

    A self-taught chef, Nicaraguan born Gabriela Chamorro created Girl and the Goose as a supper club that educated Dubai diners about South American cuisine. And fast forward five years, she’s set to open her first permanent restaurant in Dubai. Located in the Anantara Downtown, as was the theme of the Girl and the Goose supper club in Chamorro’s home, the Downtown eatery promises to reimagine Central American cuisine, presented with warm Latin hospitality.
    @girl.and.the.goose
    Kinugawa

    A sexy series of izakaya’s dotted across Paris, St Tropez, Courchevel and St Barths, Kinugawa is expanding into the Middle East with an opening at Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab. Debuting in March 2025, the Dubai iteration will be an elegant poolside retreat, serving up contemporary Japanese cuisine and fabulous cocktails.
    @kinugawadubai
    Revolver

    A modern grill restaurant hailing from Singapore, get ready to experience acclaimed Revolver, opening soon at the ME Dubai. From the renowned Culinary Arts Group, it promises the same sleek and sophisticated interiors found at the original, with the whole restaurant arranged around a theatrical open-fire kitchen. Expect wood-fired South Asian dishes from star chef Jitin Joshi.
    @revolver_dubai
    Tattu

    Born in Manchester and now found in thriving cities across the UK, including Leeds, Edinburgh and London, Tattu will make its international expansion in the summer of 2025. Set to take dining to new heights inside the world’s tallest hotel – Ciel Tower – it marks a new chapter in the Tattu story. Rather than just a late-night dinner spot, the 25,000 square-foot Tattu Dubai will be a restaurant, pool club and a late-night lounge.
    @tattudubai
    KIRA

    Opening at a stunning rooftop location at Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab, KIRA comes from Addmind – the creative minds behind DIFC’s Clap and Sucre, and recently opened Relais L’Entrecote. The glittering restaurant will bring a fusion of Japanese-Mediterranean flavours to a glamorous and refined space that will house the restaurant KIRA as well as an opulent after-hours spot, LITT. Both are set to open alongside the hotel on March 14.
    @kirarestaurant
    China Tang

    A staple on the London dining scene, China Tang is a renowned fine dining Chinese restaurant housed in The Dorchester. So it makes sense that the final piece in the culinary puzzle at Dubai’s Dorchester – The Lana – would be China Tang. The upscale Cantonese restaurant is inspired by the art-deco era of 1930s Shanghai, and the interiors are laced with the flamboyant touches its founder Sir David Tang is renowned for. The must-order dish? The signature Peking Duck.
    @chinatangdxb
    Three Bro’s Kitchen

    From the three brothers that created Dubai’s smash hit Orfali Bros comes Three Bro’s Bistro, opening soon just down the road from the trio’s first restaurant in Al Wast. Although Mohammed Orfali and his brothers haven’t given many details about what to expect from their second restaurant, foodie insiders suggest it’s going to be a fast-casual restaurant. And yes, that burger will be on the menu.
    @threebros_kitchen
    Monte Carlo Club 1863

    Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer (SBM) is the brand behind many of Monaco’s ritziest hotspots, with their portfolio featuring an array of high-end hotels, casinos and restaurants across the principality. But later this year Monte Carlo SBM will open its first restaurant outside of Monaco, bringing Monte-Carlo Club 1863 to Dubai in the autumn of 2025. Monte Carlo Club 1863 will present a dazzling showcase of ‘Monaco’s culinary specialities,’ as per an official announcement. Although no location has been given, we’re sure it’s set to be one of the city’s renowned foodie destinations due to the group’s existing portfolio of iconic destinations.
    @montecarlosbm
    The Cullinan

    Another haute addition to the culinary scene at soon-to-open Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab is The Cullinan. From the team behind Clay on Bluewater’s and SAN Beach, this fine dining steakhouse oozes modern luxury, and will open this March. On the menu, the finest meats, seafood and seasonal produce will be presented in a bold, contemporary setting, paired with an extensive wine list that perfectly pairs with the dishes.

    Your ultimate Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr 2025 gift guide

    Life

    by Sarah Joseph
    6 seconds ago

    With small gestures going a long way, gifting during Ramadan and Eid is the best way to show your appreciation for all your loved ones.
    From sophisticated fragrances to ornate jewellery pieces, this gifting edit features an expansive selection of products that will be perfect during Iftar time as people gather at one of the family members’ houses and break their fasts together.

    For a refined iftar, consider a curated caviar and saffron-infused honey hamper, served alongside hand-painted porcelain tea sets. Whether gifting a timeless treasure or an indulgent experience, each gesture embodies the spirit of Ramadan—wrapped in luxury and delivered with love.
    When is Eid al-Fitr in 2025?
    Eid ul-Fitr is expected to take place on Sunday 30th March 2025 or Monday 31st March 2025, depending on the sighting of the moon.
    Unlike the Gregorian calendar we use today, the Islamic calendar operates on the lunar cycle. This means that all significant days in the Islamic calendar appear to shift forward approximately 11 days each year. Therefore, the sighting of the moon determines the end of the month-long period of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid.
    As with each day in the Islamic calendar, the next day begins after Maghrib prayer (just after sunset) of the same day. Eid begins after the moon has been sighted. Therefore, the last day of fasting ends at Maghrib.
    Ramadan is a time of reflection, gratitude, and generosity, making the art of gifting a cherished tradition. Elevate the season with exquisite presents that blend heritage with modern elegance—bespoke leather-bound Qurans with gold-embossed calligraphy, handwoven silk prayer mats, and artisanal oud-infused tasbeehs. Indulge loved ones with gourmet date assortments drizzled in 24K gold, limited-edition attars from the world’s finest perfumers, and crystal-clad lanterns that cast a warm, celestial glow.
    Add this edit to your bookmarks as we’ll add more hero buys for gift inspiration to treat your loved ones or yourself this Ramadan and Eid.

    Thinking of a proposal? 10 romantic venues in the UAE to pop the question

    Life

    by Sarah Joseph
    45 seconds ago

    Are you thinking of popping the question anytime soon? If a proposal is on the radar, then we have the ins and outs of the most romantic spots in the UAE.
    A proposal is an extremely personal and intimate moment between a couple. More often than not, those couples know either how they want to propose or how they would like to be proposed to.
    With that said if you’re struggling for ideas or have only just begun to think about proposing, Emirates Woman has curated a guide to the most romantic places to propose in the UAE.
    As some inspiration as each couple is individual and romance means something different, however, if you use any of these ideas… you’re welcome!
    Burj Al Arab heli-pad

    World-renowned hotel, the Burj Al Arab has become the backdrop to many a Dubai proposal. However, you can up the romance and wow factor by selecting the 7-star hotel’s helipad as your proposal location. The helipad has played host to an array of events over the years so why not add your proposal to the list. A bespoke experience that can be as intimate or extravagant as you like, with breathtaking views of the Dubai skyline, a proposal here is sure to be a story you can’t wait to share.
    Sunrise hot air balloon

    There is only one time of day more romantic than sunset and that is sunrise. There is something special about watching a new day begin and it’s even more magical if viewed from a private hot air balloon. A calm early morning over the Arabian desert with the golden shades of the sunrise, combined with an intimate and private moment as you pop the question, would there be a better way to start your engagement day?
    Beach villa on Zaya Nurai Island

    If ultimate privacy and a dose of luxury is your idea of romance then staying the night in a Beach Villa on Nurai Island is just that. A private island a short boat ride off the coast of Abu Dhabi that offers bespoke romantic packages. The villa can be decorated to your taste and an itinerary can be made to make your stay memorable, no matter when or how you decide to propose. You can plan your day how you choose; massages, relaxing poolside, a candle-lit beachside dinner before hopping into a rose-petal bath with ocean views.
    A private yacht charter

    Yacht charters are a common activity in Dubai, usually with groups of friends to spend the day in the sun and having fun. However, this Dubai pastime can become super romantic and luxurious. Charter a yacht privately for a proposal with Dubai Yachting and they will fine-tune all the romantic details to create your dream proposal. Professional crew, fine-dining with a personal chef, romantic decor and a glittering Dubai skyline create a memorable experience.
    Ossiano – Atlantis

    Ossiano may seem cliché yet there are few places around the world like this fine-dining restaurant, making it a unique place to propose. A floor-to-ceiling aquarium and the best seafood in Dubai, alone are enough for a memorable and immersive experience, add asking the most important question in life to the equation and you have a unique and romantic evening, you’ll never forget.
    Sonara Camp

    Embracing the UAE’s desert landscape in the sand dunes has long been a spot for proposals. Yet Sonara Camp adds another dimension and level of romance. Willing to help you make your proposal idea a reality, Sonara will truly make this a special occasion and can even arrange a photographer and drone to capture the event. After your proposal glamping in the desert, enjoy dinner created by French Chef, Franck Sanna and stargaze (alone or with an astronomer) before returning to your private luxury tent. The next morning indulge in a Thai massage or have some fun sandboarding.
    One&Only Royal Mirage

    Indulge in abundant space, luxurious rooms and suites, nine inspiring restaurants, and dramatic, Arabesque architecture at One&Only Royal Mirage with immaculate gardens, for you to instantly feel at home while you lead down to the one-kilometre sweep of Jumeirah Beach and dream of a magical glamorous evening.
    For more information visit oneandonlyresorts.com
    Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa

With all the privacy you need, this luxurious getaway is definitely a romantic staycation for all.

Away from the hustle and bustle of city life, this chic spot is the perfect spot to ask the love of your life to marry you. As for activities, guests can enjoy stargazing at night and during the day hikes through the incredible landscapes of Mleiha or visit the Mleiha Archaeological Centre, making it the perfect getaway.

    What To Do If A Leaky Bladder Is Ruining Your Workouts

    Getting in your stride during a workout is a great “I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar!” feeling. But a leaky bladder, known as urinary incontinence, can ruin your flow by sending you to the bathroom every two minutes. If this sounds like you, read on about incontinence and how to tighten the lid on a leaky bladder.What is a leaky bladder during workouts?You’ll likely experience this if you jump, lift heavy or even sneeze – and you accidentally pee yourself. This leaky bladder during workouts, formally known as urinary incontinence (UI), is “the involuntary leakage of urine”, says Dr Julius Jacobs, a Pretoria-based urologist. “Urinary incontinence occurs when the muscles and nerves that control the bladder fail to work properly, leading to accidental urine leakage.”It exists on a spectrum, which includes just a few drops or the complete inability to control your bladder.  There are also different types of UI:Stress incontinence: A leaky bladder when pressure is put on it (i.e., you bracing your core during a heavy lift or coughing). “It is often linked to weakened pelvic floor muscles [like] after childbirth or surgery.”Urge incontinence: Also known as an overactive bladder, this type involves a sudden, intense urge to urinate, followed by involuntary leakage. It is caused by overactivity of the bladder muscles and may occur frequently, even during the night.Overflow incontinence: This happens when the bladder does not empty completely, leading to dribbling or constant leakage. It can result from nerve damage, blockages, or weak bladder muscles (your pelvic floor muscles are separate from these).Functional incontinence: A physical or mental impairment, such as arthritis or dementia, which prevents someone from reaching the bathroom in time.Mixed incontinence: This is a combination of two or more types, often stress and urge incontinence.READ MORE: Pelvic Floor Exercises: What Are They & How, When And Why Do You Need ThemWhy is a leaky bladder even happening?A number of factors influence the presence of urinary incontinence:Certain consumables: excessive caffeine, alcohol or even some meds can irritate the bladder, says Dr Jacobs. They may also increase urine production, meaning multiple bathroom trips.Medical conditions: Like functional incontinence, some conditions might impact UI. This includes diabetes, obesity, UTIs or neurological disorders, says Dr Jacobs.Ageing: With age, bladder capacity decreases, along with muscle tone, which increases the risk for a leaky bladder.  Pregnancy and childbirth: “The added weight during pregnancy and potential pelvic trauma from childbirth can weaken bladder control,” explains Dr Jacobs.READ MORE: 8 Pelvic Floor Exercises That Are Better Than KegelsTreatment options for urinary incontinenceIn some cases, you can improve UI yourself by following these tips:Reduce the alcohol or caffeine intake and time the consumption. (Try to drink less before a workout or when you’re sick; when you know your bladder is iffy.)

    Consider your weight. Research shows a correlation between having unhealthy excess fat and having UI. Per a paper in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, obesity is shown to be a strong risk factor for urinary incontinence. It’s thought that excess body weight increases the pressure on the abdomen and bladder, which in turn damages the nerves and muscles that create a healthy pelvis-bladder function. Studies have also shown that weight loss could reduce UI.

    Do pelvic floor exercises. You knew this would feature in a story about a leaky bladder! It’s not only great for sex and overall health but is a very important factor in reducing UI. These include Kegel exercises and using weights, like Yoni eggs.

    Try bladder training. If you schedule your bathroom breaks and add in delay techniques, this could retrain your bladder, says Dr Jacobs.

    Wear pads. They’ll keep things dry.

    Get medical intervention. In cases where the above doesn’t work, it’s best to see a doctor for assistance.READ MORE: This 5-Move Pelvic Circuit Will Totally Change How Your Orgasm FeelsIs it time for a doctor?If things don’t improve, it’s worth checking in with a professional, like a urologist. This would include diagnostic tests, like urine analysis, imaging (ultrasounds or other imaging to assess bladder and urethra function) and specialised tests, like urodynamic testing to measure bladder pressure and function.What would medical treatments involve?Treatment would depend on the type and severity of incontinence, says Dr Jacobs. This might include medication to relax bladder muscles or address underlying conditions, medical devices or Botox (to calm overactive bladder muscles). It might also include surgery, in severe cases. When is Ramadan 2025 in the UAE? Here’s everything you need to know

    Life

    by Sarah Joseph
    2 hours ago

    Your complete guide to Ramadan 2025 in the UAE…
    When is Ramadan 2025 in the UAE?
    Many in the UAE are beginning to plan their year, including anticipating the dates for Ramadan. While official confirmation is still pending, astronomical calculations suggest that Ramadan 2025 is likely to begin around Saturday, March 1st.

    According to Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Astronomy Society, the crescent moon of Ramadan 1446 AH is expected to be born on Friday, February 28, 2025. This astronomical prediction points to the start of Ramadan on the following day. However, it’s important to note that the UAE’s official Moon Sighting Committee will convene closer to the date to conduct an official sighting. This committee’s observation ultimately determines the definitive start of the holy month.

    The Islamic calendar, being lunar, differs from the Gregorian calendar. This means that the dates for Ramadan shift each year, typically moving forward by approximately 10 days. In 2024, Ramadan commenced on Tuesday, March 12th, highlighting this annual shift.

    What are working hours for Ramadan in the UAE?

    Working hours will be reduced by two hours across the UAE, as per the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE). Earlier, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (Fahr) announced working hours for public sector employees. These will be from 9am to 2.30pm between Monday to Thursday, while on Fridays, work will commence from 9am to 12pm.

    Everything you need to know about Ramadan in the UAE
    Beyond fasting, Ramadan holds deep spiritual significance. It commemorates the revelation of the Quran to Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). During this month, Muslims engage in increased prayer, including special nightly prayers called Tarawih, during which portions of the Quran are recited.
    Fasting during Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam, the fundamental principles that guide Muslim life. These pillars form the framework of Islamic practice, and Ramadan is considered the holiest month in the Islamic calendar. It’s a time for introspection, spiritual reflection, and increased devotion to Allah through prayer and good deeds, seeking forgiveness and spiritual cleansing.

    Ramadan is a significant time for Muslims worldwide, observed through fasting from dawn until sunset. During this period, Muslims abstain from eating, drinking, and smoking. This practice extends to public spaces, where non-Muslims are also expected to respect the fasting practices. It’s crucial for everyone in the UAE to be mindful of these customs during Ramadan.

    The observance of Ramadan also impacts daily life in the UAE. Both public and private sectors typically implement reduced working hours during this period. While precise timings are usually announced closer to the date, a reduction of two working hours is common. This adjustment allows individuals to better manage their time for prayer, reflection, and family gatherings during the holy month.

    As the anticipated start of Ramadan 2025 approaches, it’s advisable to stay tuned for official announcements from the UAE government regarding the confirmed date and any specific guidelines for the month. While astronomical predictions provide a strong indication, the official moon sighting remains the final determinant. In the meantime, understanding the significance and customs of Ramadan helps foster respect and understanding within the diverse community of the UAE.
