    Lifestyle

This World Mental Health Day we are encouraging people to check in on themselves as well as others.
In the fast-paced world of technology and a hectic year of uncertainty with the COVID-19 pandemic, the conversation surrounding mental health has never been more prevalent than ever.
While, of course, we want to ensure others are okay, you also need to check in on yourself from time to time to ensure your own mental health is okay.
With that, here’s nine questions to ask to “check-in” on yourself and your mental health.

    How am I feeling today?
What is my mood like every morning? Am I energetic, lazy, motivated or uninspired?
How am I performing with my daily life activities?
How is my appetite? Has it increased or decreased?
How are my sleeping habits? Am I feeling rested? Do I wake up tired?
What are my areas of interest?
What are the things that keep me happy?
    How do I perceive life?
What are the thoughts floating around in my mind?

By asking these simple questions, it could help identify some mental health issues you may be going through and pinpoint whether you should seek further help or not.

    Lifestyle

    by Team Emirates Woman

Meet Sara Al Shamsi and Maha Al Balooshi – the new stars of Al Ain Womenʼs FC First Team. Leading the line for the womenʼs game in the UAE, both players recently came together for a photo shoot to launch this seasonʼs official new Nike kit. Stars on and off the pitch, the pair are planning on kicking off the season in style.
The women’s team has been a key supporter of women’s sports in the UAE following its launch in 2019, creating the Al Ain Sports Girls Training Centres with delegates from the UAE Football Association and the Womenʼs Football Committee. This year the team was also on hand to lend support to the UAE’s silver medal-winning team in the Special Olympics in Michigan.
Inspiring generations of football stars to come, Al Balooshi and Al Shamsi share with Emirates Woman how they got into the sport, their inspirations and their dreams for the future.
    Maha Al Balooshi

    What position do you play?
    Goalkeeper.
    What is your playing record?
I have participated in several friendly matches with the national team and official tournaments, including West Asia and friendly matches against the Maldives, Syria, Seychelles, India, Bahrain, Iraq and many other countries.
Can you outline your main accomplishments throughout your career so far?

With the UAE national team, we won gold and silver in the Abu Dhabi World Games 2019 which was a real highlight
I was also named best goalkeeper in Al Ain Championship with first place in 2020 season.
In 2022, we won the silver in the Special Olympics in the Detroit World Cup.

    Where did you train?
I started my career at the Abu Dhabi club, where I was called up for the UAE under-19 team and it was the beginning of my establishment as a national goalkeeper.
    Who are your main inspirations?
Houria Al-Tahri is the force in the world of football and has been one of the main factors in building women’s football in the UAE, which it seeks to develop day after day. She has also been one of the biggest supporters in my sports career.
What are your goals for this season?
It will be an exciting season for me, and I will strive to show my best level to protect my net and defend the Al Ain logo.
What are your hopes for the future of football in the UAE?
The dream of my life is to see women’s football developed in the Gulf, especially in the UAE, and for all professional clubs to open a women’s team to develop women’s football in the UAE.
    Sara Al Shamsi

    What position do you play?
    Central Defender.
    What is your playing record?
I’ve played in a few friendly tournaments organised by Al Ain FC but our first official season was the real start and we achieved second place that year.
I’ve also played in the Al Ain Club Championship with the participation of teams from Gulf countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bahrain, and we won first place in it. I am also a player in the UAE national team.
Can you outline your main accomplishments throughout your career so far?
Collective prizes with the team when we get the first places in the tournaments, being central defender position it is difficult to obtain individual prizes, usually those who receive individual prizes are either attacking (scorer) or goalkeeper. I participated in Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak’s championship in jiu-jitsu and I won the gold medal in the first tournament. The training took about two months and I was very proud of that achievement. After that, I decided to focus more on team sports like basketball, volleyball, and football, and I also participated in handball tournaments.
    Where did you train?
I’ve always been sporty, running daily while at school. As I grew older, I started getting very interested in football and basketball, and I continued this passion to the university level, and after graduating from university, I joined Al Ain Club.
    Who are your main inspirations?
In terms of women, Alexa Botías is a Spanish midfielder in the Barcelona team and is considered the best football player in the world. I love learning skills from her, and I always watch her matches. I really hope in the future to reach her level and more.
What are your goals for this season?
Getting first place in the upcoming tournaments, according to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan when he said, “The second is the same as the last.” What my team and I aspire to is that we will not be in second place again and we will not accept it.

How To Nail That Follow-Up Interview, According to Experts

If you’re gearing up for that second (or third) job interview and are freaking out just a bit, sit back and unclench your jaw for a sec. We’re here to help. While career guidebooks and college courses tend to place a major emphasis on nailing that initial screening, follow-up interviews are just as key. However, there’s often less information out there about how to make sure it goes swimmingly. That’s where we come in. We’ve spoken with three experts who’ve weighed in with interview tips. They discuss how to shine during a longer, more thorough interview, in which you’ll be asked about more than your general interest in the company and basic skillset. Read on. Then, get ready to impress.

Do your company research ahead of time
It’s time to enlist your BFF, Google. “You should be able to talk a bit about the organization and what is important to them,” says Miriam Salpeter, founder of Keppie Consulting. “This information should be readily available on their website.” It’s smart to then use your findings to shape your talking points on the day of the interview. “If their website mentions ‘teamwork’ on every other line, you’ll want to mention something about your commitment to working on a team,” Salpeter explains.

    Look into your interviewers
If the company included the names of those individuals you’ll be meeting with, use this information to your advantage. “Some good places to start are their company website (if they have a profile), their LinkedIn page, and a Google search for any news alerts or publications,” advises Samantha Simmons, an executive legal recruiter at LHH Recruitment Solutions. She formerly worked in BigLaw. “There is no need to memorize their CV, but jot down a few things that interest you, whether it’s something you have in common or a new initiative that you’d like to ask them more about.”

    Study your resume
Review your resume. Your interviewers are certainly going to be giving it a close look! “Make sure you are comfortable talking about anything and everything on there,” Simmons notes. “Then, take it one step further and decide on three highlights that you want to make sure you are communicating to your interviewer.” These may relate to a specific degree, credential, or work accomplishment, she explains.

Use the following technique when answering questions
You’ll want to practice answering questions at home ahead of time. Salpeter is a proponent of using the PAR technique. “State the problem, describe the action you took, and explain the result,” she says. “When you incorporate all of these—briefly, you aren’t writing a book—you have the best chance to succeed.”

    Don’t worry about sounding scripted
Spending the evening before your interview going over all the key talking points you plan to cover is never a bad idea. “People would rather hear stories than simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ responses,” explains Sho Dewan, career coach and founder at Workhap. “Practice your storytelling skills and hook the interviewers’ attention in the first few lines of the story.”
Simmons agrees. “Even questions that address a gap in your knowledge are an opportunity to share.” Suppose your interviewer asks you about your experience handling a certain task. If it’s something you haven’t yet encountered, use your reply to indicate how you’re a quick learner, Simmons suggests. “Instead of just saying ‘no’ and leaving the interviewer with a negative impression, you have shifted the conversation to your highlights,” she explains. “You should be in control of what you are emphasizing about your background at every turn.”

Don’t forget to leave room for a little improvisation
You do not want to sound robotic during your interview session. Reading the room is important. “Job interviews are all about connecting and vibing with the person sitting across from you,” Dewan adds. “Too many people get too focused on sounding perfect and memorizing their scripts when it would be ten times more beneficial to go into their next interview with the goal of making a new friend.”

    Asking your interviewer some questions
It’s fine to come prepared with a few go-to questions. However, don’t be afraid to improvise a bit based on your specific conversation. “While it’s helpful to have questions in mind, you don’t want to sound like you are asking the same boring, perfunctory question to every interviewer,” Salpeter explains. One thing you definitely will want to inquire about every time: What lies ahead? “Always ask about the company’s timeframe and when you can expect to hear about the next steps,” Salpeter adds. “Be sure you know the name and contact information for your interviewer so you can send an email thanking them.” More

To invigorate all your senses, technology and gastronomy work together seamlessly from the minute you take your first bite. By paving the way for culinary art, the custom space can seat 12 diners who can fully immerse into a visual stimulation of themes and get insights into the food’s origins.
