The UAE will reopen its air, land and sea borders with Qatar as of tomorrow

It has been announced that the UAE will reopen its borders with Qatar.
According to WAM, the UAE’s state news agency, air, land and seaports with Qatar will open tomorrow, Saturday, January 9, 2021.

It was stated by His Excellency Khalid Abdullah Belhoul, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, that the “UAE will begin to end all measures taken against the State of Qatar according to the statement issued on June 5, 2017”.

His Excellency also stated the nation would continue to work with Qatar to “end all other outstanding issues through bilateral talks”.
The reopening air, land and sea pathways comes after the signing of the Al-Ula Agreement.
Earlier this week, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, flew to Saudi Arabia to meet with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah, the Crown Prince of Bahrain Salman Bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister Fahad Al Said.
The Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani was also in attendance – the first time he attended a summit since 2017.
All of the leaders and heads of delegations of the GCC signed the Final Communique and Al-Ula Declaration, which is a “renewal of faith in the progress of countries of the GCC”, Sheikh Mohammed said of the meeting.

Sheikh Mohammed added that there is a renewed “optimism that the coming years will bring stability and security and achievements that serve our people… and contributes to the stability of those around us”.
Meanwhile, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman also reiterated a similar sentiment on behalf of Saudi Arabia.
“This affirms the importance of the solidarity and stability in the Gulf, Arab and Islamic countries and strengthens the bonds of friendship and brotherhood among our countries and peoples in order to serve their aspirations,” he said, as per the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s firm and continuous policy, future plans, and ambitious development vision (the Kingdom Vision 2030) prioritises a unified and solid Gulf Cooperation Council.”

Travelling from the UAE to the UK? There’s a new update you need to know about

If you’re intending to travel from the UAE to the UK soon, there’s some new updates you need to know about.
It’s been announced by the UK government that all travellers going to the UK from any country – whether they be visitors or British citizens – must ensure they have a negative COVID-19 PCR test which has been done within 72 hours.

These changes have come following an increasing number of cases in the UK due to a new reported strain of the virus which can spread more quickly.
For those travelling, if you are found without a negative COVID-19 test result will be given an immediate £500 fine.

While those travelling to the UK from other countries still face a 14-day quarantine time, this does not apply to the UAE. A travel corridor between the UAE and the UK officially opened back in November.
COVID-19 testing requirements to enter Dubai
Towards the end of last year, it was confirmed by Dubai-based airline Emirates that all tourists from the UK and Germany can be tested upon arrival at Dubai airport.
For the following countries, the below rules apply: Algeria, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Brazil, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Kuwait, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malaysia, Maldives Islands, Mauritius, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Seychelles, Singapore, Somalia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States (New York, Washington DC, Boston, Chicago, Seattle).
For UAE residents, they are able to present a negative COVID-19 PCR test which is valid 96 hours before the date of departure or can simply be tested upon arrival into Dubai.
Tourists need to present a negative COVID-19 test which is valid 96 hours before the date of departure. However, those coming from Germany and the UK can opt for a COVID-19 PCR test upon arrival in Dubai.
Those who are transiting passengers from the above countries are not required to present a COVID-19 PCR test certificate unless it is mandated by your final destination.
For the remaining countries the below rules apply: Afghanistan, Angola, Argentina, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Chile, Cote d’lvoire, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Georgia, Ghana, Greece, Guinea, Hungary, India, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Malta, Moldova, Montenegro, Morocco, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Romania, Russia, Rwanda, Senegal, Slovakia, Somaliland, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, United States (California, Florida, Texas), Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Zambia, Zimbabwe
Two COVID-19 tests are required for UAE residents – one 96 hours before the departure date and a second upon arrival in Dubai.
Two COVID-19 tests are required for tourists – one 96 hours before the departure date and a second upon arrival in Dubai.
Transiting passengers from these countries must have a negative COVID‑19 PCR test certificate that is valid for 96 hours from the date of the test, as well as any requirements for their final destination.
It should be noted that a PCR test is required and you need to have a printed verification in English or Arabic – SMS or digital versions will not be accepted.

How I’m Having More Fun With My Wardrobe This Year

Last year, I think it’s safe to say just about every one of us lost a piece of our identity. You don’t realize how much the little things—the coffee shop you stop at on the way to the office, the shirt you wear on the mornings you’re feeling your best—shape us and how we feel every day. And for me, there was no area that I felt this more about in 2020 than my wardrobe. For some, wearing sweats and never putting makeup on is a dream come true, but putting together outfits and getting ready in the morning has always been something that I live for. I get excited on Sunday nights thinking about what I’m going to wear to the office Monday morning, and I never realized just how much it was a part of me until it was taken away. Sure, I followed and wrote about the trends of the year and even invested in a few, but at the end of the day, it was the year of not getting ready—and this year, I’ve vowed to change that.
I haven’t made a single resolution this year except one: to truly have more fun with my wardrobe—here’s how:

    1. Adding more color
It’s no secret that here at The Everygirl, we love neutrals—and hell, so do I. If I’m investing in a new piece for my wardrobe, it’s always safe to choose something neutral that I know I’ll wear for years to come. But this year, I’m done wearing only neutrals.
Over the past year or so, I’ve gotten into the habit of not investing in a ton of color, but noticed that when I do wear it, it impacts my mood in the best of ways. In all honesty, I don’t need anything else in a neutral color in my wardrobe, so when I do decide to buy new things, they’re going to be in fun colors that make more of a statement than something tan or grey. This year’s color trends are looking like a lot of lavender, pale yellow, and green, and all of those sound like a pretty great place to start.

    2. Being more comfortable with feeling uncomfortable
No, I don’t mean I’m going to wear things that aren’t physically comfortable—that’s never the answer. Rather, I’m getting more comfortable wearing the things I might feel a little silly in when I first leave the house. For example, I bought a beret last year (before Emily in Paris, believe it or not), but never wore it because every time I left the house I felt like I was wearing a sign on my back that said “I’m trying too hard.” News flash: the only one who knows how hard you tried is you. For all anyone around you knows, that beret or those boots could be something you wear every single day. The only one thinking about it is you, so it’s time to rid ourselves of feeling self-conscious when we step out of our comfort zones, and instead embrace it as a potential new normal if it’s something you find you feel great in. (Yes, the beret is now a part of my daily outerwear, and no, I don’t think about it anymore.)

    3. Stop waiting for an excuse to wear my favorite clothes
It’s easy to fall into a habit of waiting to burn that expensive candle or break out those investment boots until there’s a reason to, and in 2021, I’m saying no more to that. Having a drink on a patio with my friend? Going to run some errands? Both sound like a fantastic excuse to break out my “special” clothes (no, I’m not talking about a ball gown here, but that jacket I love but can never find a reason to wear? Absolutely). Too often I find myself wearing the things I’m most comfortable with or that are on top of my piles of clothes when I am getting dressed, and I’m saying no more to those habits. Know what sounds like a great excuse to wear my leather pants? A regular Tuesday.

    4. Mixing patterns
Nothing can make inspiration hit like a good muse, and last year, mine was Astrid Sloan in “The Politician”. Her styling made me stop in my tracks; it mixed bold colors, incorporated tons of accessories, and did a hefty amount of mixing patterns. As I was watching it all, I could think about is how I wanted to start styling my clothes more like that when circumstances allowed—and I’m saying the time is now.
When done right, there’s nothing more effortlessly chic than mixed patterns; although it’s intentional, it looks anything but, and while it’s not something I thought to do in my regular life last year, I’m going to be more intentional about incorporating it into my rotation of outfits this year. In my opinion, the best way to pull it off is by sticking to similar color palettes, but from there, the less thought goes into it, the better.

    5. Choosing more out-of-the-box accessories
I’m the first to admit I gravitate toward the gold necklaces and the tried-and-true, years-old sunglasses I wear every day, but what better place to get out of your comfort zone than with accessories?
I’m someone that doesn’t usually buy new accessories unless they’re high-quality and something I know I’m going to wear for years to come, but this year I’m vowing to choose a few trendier ones to incorporate into my daily outfits; my go-to Ray Bans and dainty gold hoops will still be there on days I don’t want things that are wilder, but they’re going to be put on the backburner for things that are fun and different this year.

    6. Switching up my beauty routine
When it comes to makeup, I’m following in the footsteps of our beauty writer, Beth, and being more strategic with pairing my makeup looks with my outfits. It’s easy to wake up every day and choose my outfit carefully, but then apply my makeup the same way I do every single day. I love makeup and beauty trends and scour the aisles of Sephora more than I should, but too often am getting things that I already have in my collection: neutral eyeshadow palettes, soft pink blushes, and the like. This year is the one I’m going to start dabbling in more color on my eyes and lips and less of the neutral browns I’m far too comfortable with. Another place I’m starting? Taking a break from the neutral manicure I’m used to in exchange for more seasonal colors. Makeup washes off at the end of the day, so why not have fun with it?

    7. Trying silhouettes I don’t gravitate toward
At my most comfortable, I’m wearing something along the lines of straight-leg jeans, sneakers, a tight shirt, and a jacket. This year, I want to be conscious about trying trends that aren’t something I’d ordinarily gravitate toward. Instead of wearing white sneakers for another day because they’re what are sitting by my door, I want to get more use of the things that I have but don’t wear as frequently because of habit’s sake. My Hair Is the Healthiest It’s Ever Been—and I Owe It All to These 8 Things

About a year ago, I caught a glimpse of the back of my head in a fitting room mirror and was absolutely horrified. I’d known my hair wasn’t exactly my best feature; years of box dye, wonky haircuts, and barely taking care of it will do that to you. But I wasn’t prepared for how damaged, dry, and broken my hair looked like, especially in the back. I immediately grabbed my phone and booked a hair appointment, but the real work happened afterward when I finally started taking proper care of my locks.Since then, my hairdresser has commented endlessly on how much healthier my hair looks and feels, but I noticed a major difference when I went through my camera roll and saw how short my hair was in fall 2018 and my big chop in 2019 compared to how it’s looking now in January 2021. But the difference isn’t just about length; my hair has never felt healthier probably in my life.

Everything You Need to Know About My Hair:
    Color-treated blonde
    Very fine
Thin from dyes and poor nutrition (I had an eating disorder for eight years)
My diet is pretty balanced; I enjoy a protein-topped salad for lunch most days, but I also eat a heaping bowl of noodles at least three nights a week. I also get at least 80 oz. of water every day, but I try to aim for 128 when I can. (My diet and water intake have only been this great for about five months–the beginning of quarantine, I wasn’t as kind to my body, but I’m working on it!)
My hair will never be down to my waist and thick and luscious; that isn’t my goal. (Only in my dreams!) But healthy, soft, shiny, strong, volumized hair is.

    The Steps I Took

    1. Eating extra protein
Changing up my diet was one of the biggest proponents, in my opinion, of the major change of my hair. My hair was definitely doing better once I did all of these nine things, but I’ve noticed the biggest difference since I shifted my diet the last six months. I read a few books and articles and spoke to a dietician who finally helped me squash the myths I had about my food intake, particularly how much protein I was eating. I wasn’t getting nearly enough, so I basically doubled how much I was eating prior. Hair is largely made up of protein, so it makes sense why upping your intake would lead to thicker, stronger strands.
I increased the protein in my diet through eggs, chicken, turkey, peanut butter, avocados, protein powder, broccoli, tuna, oatmeal, and Greek yogurt.

    2. Olaplex
Everyone sings the praises of Olaplex No. 3, and I do that love product as well, but I’ve noticed the biggest change in my hair since I added No. 6, the leave-in treatment. I use it every single time I wash my hair as a leave-in product. I notice immediately when I don’t use it because my hair looks and feels so much better. The product detangles, prevents flyaways, and leaves my hair smooth and soft, but I’ve experienced the biggest change in using it over time. Just like the No. 3, it’s a bond-builder, meaning it goes into your hair and actually repairs it from the inside out instead of masking the problem like most treatments.

    3. A blunt cut
This might not help everyone, but my hair was so broken off in different parts that I needed a solid haircut to start fresh and even out the lengths of my hair. Starting with a short, blunt cut gave me a clean canvas to keep growing out my hair. Getting off all the dead even made my hair look thicker and healthier, which I’ll take over growing out my long, damaged hair anyway.

    4. Treating my hair like my skin
Ever since I read about adopting a nighttime hair care routine just like you would skincare, I’ve focused on treating my hair just like I do my skin (which is with many, many products, some manifestation, and so much love). This meant I created a routine that I do pretty much every night to keep my hair in check. No matter what, I always brush my hair before bed–no ifs, ands, or buts. This keeps my hair tangle-free while I sleep, causing fewer snags on the pillowcase and less breakage. Plus, it redistributes any oils in my hair that have built up on my roots after a long day. I notice since doing this my hair is much more manageable and so much softer.
Then, I assess if I’ll be washing my hair the next day or not. If I’m washing my hair, I really go in with oils, scalp massages, and moisturizing products to leave on overnight. Not only is it super relaxing, but my hair has benefited from all the extra moisture, especially my scalp. I notice less irritation and my style lasts longer because it’s not overproducing oils to make up for how dry it is. This is my routine:
Brush my hair with a boar bristle brush
Apply aloe vera gel (it’s really calming and soothing on the scalp and sinks in quickly) or an oil to my scalp and massage in for 3-5 minutes
Apply a treatment oil to my ends
Brush through with a regular brush (I use an old one that I don’t mind getting oils all over)
I also will use any leftover products on my hands from my skincare routine on my hair, such as my hyaluronic acid serum, moisturizer, and oil. My hair needs the moisture too! Once a month, I’ll do my Olaplex No. 3 treatment overnight.
If I’m not washing my hair, I’ll usually just use a very small amount of oil on the very ends and use a boar bristle brush to pull any of my natural hair oils from my scalp through to my ends.
Another important part of my nighttime hair routine is never putting it in a bun or ponytail to sleep. Which brings me to …

    5. Sleeping with a silk pillowcase
You’ve heard this tip time and time again, but I am here to announce that it is not a farce. We’re not lying when we say it truly makes a difference. Using a satin pillowcase, my hair had fewer tangles and my bedhead wasn’t nearly as intense. But I noticed a major difference when I upgraded to the Slip pillowcase. Because of this, I always keep my hair down at night. The breakage at the back of my hair was largely caused by the friction of my head on the pillow at night (I am a bit of a hard sleeper), as well as ponytails and buns at the back of my head. My breakage there is now largely nonexistent, and I swear it’s because of these two swaps.

    6. Investing in my hair color
I gave up box dye after high school, but I still wasn’t getting regular salon treatments, especially in terms of my color. I tried a few different stylists, opting for the cheapest salons I could find to save a buck. When I noticed my hair was in shambles, I researched a salon and stylist who would be the best for my hair, not my wallet. I’m not saying you should spend your whole paycheck on hair color, don’t get me wrong, but if you’re going to invest in all of these products and tools, why not spend a little more on a colorist who will use quality products and tools on your hair?
Not only does my stylist use as minimal bleach as possible to get my desired look, but after enough time, she’s gotten to know my hair type and texture. She knows my hair won’t ever be thick and luscious like a goddess, but she knows how to fake it. She holds me accountable to regular trims (when there isn’t a pandemic, of course) and treats my hair with tender loving care every time she touches it. It’s a self-care expense for sure, but it’s also kept the health of my hair on the uptrend big time, and for that, it’s worth it.

    7. Limiting my dry shampoo use
I have the pandemic to thank for this, but I stopped using dry shampoo like my life depended on it every other day, and the health of my scalp improved ten-fold. Dry shampoo is lovely every now and then, but piling it on my scalp almost daily was destroying my already itchy, irritated scalp. My nighttime hair routine definitely helps keep my oils at bay, but when duty calls, I still reach for dry shampoo sometimes. When I go back to working in an office, I’ll be investing in a few more hats.

    8. Use high-quality heat tools
You can tell me over and over again to give up heat-styling my hair, but it will never, ever happen. I love styling my hair way too much for that. But the one swap I did make was tossing old, crusty, high-heat tools for products that were designed with hair health in mind. It’s the least I could do! Plus, my style looks less frizzy, lasts longer, and overall looks better. My two favorites that help me achieve just about any look: a blow dryer that doesn’t get too hot and doesn’t fry my hair and a curling iron with a titanium barrel and changeable heat settings.

    Kristin Ess
    Beach Wave Curling Iron

This is one of the best curling irons I’ve tried, especially at the price point. My curls are never frizzy or dry-looking, and they last a long time. Plus, my hair never looks or feels fried or damaged like other curling irons have in the past.

Cura Professional Digital Ionic Hair Dryer

Since getting bangs, I cannot live without a blow dryer. I have to blow dry my bangs, or else they look disheveled (and not even in a cute 2020 Taylor Swift way). So finding a high-quality blow dryer was at the top of my list last year, and I’ve loved this one. It’s not outrageously priced (one day I’ll experience the luxury that is Dyson… one day!), but it still feels luxe to use and my hair dries quickly. But the best part is that my hair never looks fried, gets tangled, or feels crunchy (my biggest pet peeves with low-quality blow dryers).

    My Favorite Products:

    Elizavecca
    Collagen Coating Hair Protein Treatment

This is the best deep conditioner I have ever used—and I’ve tried dozens of high-end formulas. I use this once a week, and it leaves my hair smooth, soft, and as virgin-like as I’ve ever seen. You’d think I never went near bleach in my life based on how moisturized my hair feels with this! It’s so affordable too, but that’s simply a bonus for how high quality the product is.

    Boar and Nylon Bristle Brush

A celebrity hairstylist once recommended using a boar bristle brush if you have combination hair (dry ends, oily roots—the story of my life) because the bristles help distribute those scalp oils through the rest of your hair evenly. I use this every night before bed, and I notice I can by using less dry shampoo because of it. Total game-changer.

    Moroccan Oil
    Moroccanoil Treatment

This is the cornerstone of my nighttime hair routine. Oiling up my ends after a long day feels like bliss, especially with this because it smells amazing. I use this as a styling oil, a treatment, an overnight product, and more.

    No. 3 Hair Perfector

If you have damaged, color-treated, or relaxed hair, invest in this product and use it once a week, and you’ll watch your hair transform over time. Be warned: this isn’t a deep conditioner, so it won’t give you the best-hair-of-your-life after one use like my above fave. It’s meant to be used over time because it works from the inside out. (And anyone who’s used it can tell you, it works.)

    Silk Pillowcase

Is there any other silk pillowcase on the market? I love how easy and accessible this one is. Plus, it’s so pleasant to sleep with. I love that there’s a zipper, so your pillow stays put. It’s the little things.

    Bread Beauty Supply
    Hair Oil Everyday Gloss

This is a new addition to my routine, and it is so lovely. It’s a little thick for my hair (which I knew going in—it’s supposed to be amazing on thick, textured, coily, and curly hair types, which obviously I do not have) during the day, but it is absolutely divine to put on my hair at night or as a treatment. I also love using the tiniest amount just at the ends to keep them looking fresh on second-day hair.

10 Ways to Up Your Dating Game in 2021

Dating is always tough to navigate: what do you text back, who pays the check, and why is it so hard to meet normal people!? But dating during lockdown is a whole new set of difficulties: the old rules of dating no longer apply, our go-to date spots are closed, and we totally forgot how to do our makeup (nope, just me?). But lockdown or not, you deserve a fulfilling life, fun ways to meet new people, and to actually enjoy dating (because no one should have Charlotte’s dating exhaustion).

We all say it every year, but 2021 can truly be the year you reach all of your goals (#newyearnewme, right?). No matter what’s going on in the world, this year can be a golden opportunity if you’re looking for love (or, you know, just looking to go on dates that don’t suck). Here are 10 ways to not only date in 2021, but to totally up your dating game, achieve a fulfilling love life, and find a happy relationship (no matter how serious you’re looking for). Read on for romantic success by 2022:

    1. Appreciate how dating is different now
Maybe you’re getting Zoom-date fatigue, or maybe you’ve kept your dating life on hold since the stay-at-home order hit. However, a global pandemic and social distancing restrictions don’t have to harm your love life. In fact, they could even be beneficial. For example, dating during a pandemic means focusing on an emotional connection first, since the physical connection and new-relationship excitement isn’t possible. You can get to know who someone is without spending time and energy doing the actual dating. Slower connections are a new kind of intimacy (plus it’s more foreplay, you know?), unsexy topics like who pays the bill is off the table (literally), and staying at home is an opportunity to get to know each other with fewer distractions. In other words, 2021 brings a lot of potential for your love life–not in spite of the pandemic, but because of it.

    2. Keep all options open
Many of us have this idea that we need a movie-worthy meet-cute when finding a soulmate. But closing yourself off to any meeting that isn’t locking eyes across a crowded bar or running into a long-forgotten high school sweetheart from back home (Hallmark Channel style) limits your chances. And during a lockdown? Your chances are next to nothing. Despite what Hollywood has us believe, we can meet worthwhile people anywhere. You could meet your ideal partner over a Zoom meeting, at an online singles event, in an elevator, at the park walking your dog, or yes, on a dating app. The more options you keep open, the higher your chances of meeting people that you’ll enjoy being around. Instead of a “meet-cute,” try to find the dating apps or methods that feel right for you, and be open to any possibility.

    Source: @ashbegash

    3. Be ready for “the talk”
No, not the “seeing other people” talk, or even the STD talk (although I urge you to have those conversations as well). I’m talking about the global pandemic talk. It may be awkward, but being on the same page about COVID safety and social distancing practices is crucial to make dating safe and enjoyable. Make sure you’re connecting with people who are taking the same safety precautions that you are and be open and honest about what you’re comfortable with. If an in-person date is on the table, let them know exactly how you’re staying safe, and what you expect from them to feel safe being together.
As weird as the conversation might feel, one of the good things about dating in a pandemic is that you have to be more intentional and selective about who you spend your time with. Having an open and honest dialogue not only keeps you safe and worry-free, but lays the foundation for a trustworthy relationship.

    4. Forget prerequisites
Many of us have extensive prerequisite checklists before even considering going on a first date. Maybe you want someone who is exactly like you, whether it’s interests, religion, or background. Maybe you’re not looking twice at people who have a certain dating history, are over a certain age, or own a cat (because you’re way more of a dog person).
While shared values are crucial and compatibility is often determined by similarities, try getting to know someone before making assumptions based on your prerequisites. The only “prerequisites” you need are your non-negotiable values, like kindness, integrity, and humor. Otherwise, base opinions on how you feel, not off of a checklist. Pay attention to the person in front of you, and try not to project a narrative or assign meaning to traits before you even know the person. Ask questions, and genuinely care about why someone is the way they are before determining whether or not they are for you.

    5. Cut it off with the “maybes,” already!
Do you have an ex that has been hanging around for years, or a f*ckboy that’s been messing with your head? What about those people you text when you’re feeling lonely or bored, or who you think you might be interested in someday (keyword: might)? I call these people the “maybes:” the exes, previous dates, and “it’s complicated” relationships that didn’t work out the first time around, but you keep their number in your phone “just in case,” or are hoping something will change.
There’s a lot of reasons we stick around with people we know are not good for us. Maybe they’re a security blanket, maybe we’re lonely, or maybe we’re seeking external approval. But no matter the reason the wrong person is in your life, as soon as you realize they’re not the one for you, that should be the end of it, not the beginning of the end. Now, if you have a friend with benefits (you don’t have feelings for) or love flirty-texting that hot coworker, you do you, girl. But those people you go to out of loneliness, comfortability, or insecurity? They’re just holding you back. Know what you deserve, be honest with yourself, and don’t settle. Bonus tip: unfollow on social media. Just do it!

    7. Visualize your best self
Dating highlights our biggest insecurities: we overanalyze what we say over text or Tinder, try on 15 different outfits (even if the date is just on Zoom), and maybe even expect the worst and prepare to be ghosted or for the date to go bad. Sound familiar? To cure pre-date anxieties, try visualizing the best version of yourself. Are you confident, comfortable, or friendly? How would the most confident you act on this date? What would you wear? Would you even care about what you wear? Remind yourself that you are the catch that your date is trying to impress, not the other way around. Even if you don’t feel confident or calm, the simple act of visualizing your best self can help you relax, and enjoy the date instead of getting in your head.

    6. Remember that “no” is not a dirty word
In fact, it’s one of the most important words in your dating vocabulary. Especially as women, we’re taught to be likable and easy-going on dates, and we focus more on how to be liked than whether or not we actually like them (but more on that below). You know what we should vow to end in 2021? Going on dates we’re not excited about, texting back people we don’t like, or not vocalizing what we want and need in our relationships to protect other people’s egos. Overall, let’s work on saying “no” when we want to say no. Compromise and empathy are crucial in relationships, but so is respect for each other’s wants and needs. Communicating what you don’t want should be just as easy as what you do. If it’s not, this person doesn’t respect you or care about you as much as they say they do. Thank you, next.

    7. Use alone time to your advantage
While 2020 was a lonely year for many of us, being alone has allowed us to turn inward, explore our truest desires, and get to know ourselves better. When we know ourselves and what we want, our dating lives become more fulfilling, successful, and fun. Think about it: we’ve grown a lot, started new hobbies or hustles, and got to know our likes and dislikes in 2020. Even an abundance of alone time can be invested to understand what we want out of a partner. Plus, scary times make people crave connection, and hitting pause on all normalcy helps you let go of the habits, traits, or dating rules that are no longer serving you. Not only have you been subconsciously preparing yourself for a more successful dating life, but any potential partners have too.

    8. Ditch outdated rules
Let me go on a quick tangent about a few outdated dating rules that we really should ditch, like, yesterday. To start, my least favorite of all dating rules are “don’t kiss on the first date” and the “three-date rule.” Let’s just throw out any rules that imply that what you want to do with your body, and when you want to do it, is not up to you. Make your own rules based on comfortability and what you’re feeling.
Next up: playing hard to get or waiting for the other person to make the first move. Besides outdated gender roles, these “rules” come from the idea that whoever cares less in the relationship is the one who has the most power. But should love be about power? It’s OK to care; we’re supposed to care about each other. So what does it matter if you “come on too strong” or “care more?” Be true to your feelings and what you want. Oh, and making the first move can save us a lot of time wondering if they like us back. It’s 2021: we’re starting side hustles, prioritizing our health, and smashing glass ceilings. Ain’t nobody got time to wait around for a phone call.

    9. Focus on finding out what you want
Dating is supposed to be about finding what you want, not becoming what someone else wants. Some people will like you and some people won’t. Whether or not someone wants to pursue a relationship or a second date with you has nothing to do with how likable you are, but has to do with compatibility. And I think we can all agree there are many people we wouldn’t mind being incompatible with. Prioritize what you want in a partner by making a list of non-negotiable qualities or values you want, and stop yourself from getting caught up in what a relationship or person could be. Instead, ask yourself if you genuinely enjoy each person you’re talking to, and whether or not they deserve you.

    10. Know that dating is supposed to be enjoyable (and stop if it isn’t)
Repeat after me: dating should be fun. It should not feel forced, boring, painful, or sad. If it’s not enjoyable, you’re either putting too much pressure on each date, feeling self-conscious about dating, or focusing on the wrong things. Remember that dating is not intended to have only one outcome. Every experience–whether it’s a Zoom date, Tinder conversation, or a few months of dating–brings you closer to clarity.
The purpose of going on dates, talking to new people, and opening yourself up to meet someone new is not to feed your ego, affirm insecurities, or to find a soulmate ASAP. The purpose is to collect information that will bring you closer to a happy, fulfilling life, and to have a good time along the way. Bottom line: it should be fun meeting new people, whether or not a second date follows (yes, really!). If it’s not, take a break from dating to reflect on what you’re really looking for in your dating life.

Inside Sheikh Hamdan’s recent foodie tour of Dubai

It’s no secret that His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai is a huge foodie.
He’s regularly seen out and about in Dubai supporting the F&B industry visiting numerous hotspots. DIFC restaurant Gaia is known to be one of his ultimate favourites.

Just recently throughout the month of December (and the beginning of January), His Highness was doing a somewhat foodie tour of Dubai having been photographed at four restaurants in the matter of just a couple of weeks.
Sal at the Burj Al Arab

In mid-December, the Crown Prince of Dubai was pictured at Sal at the Burj Al Arab. This restaurant opened its doors back in September 2020 and has been a popular destination for restaurant-goers ever since.
It offers guests endless ocean views with seamless service and a sophisticated menu.
Described as “barefoot luxury meets Southern European culinary excellence”, the restaurants also comes fully equipped with a 100-metre infinity pool to relax at after a delightful meal. From flavourful dishes prepared by Chef Roberto Rispoli, this amazing eatery is a part of the Jumeriah group.

    CZN Burak

Around one week later, on Christmas Day, His Highness was then seen at brand new restaurant CZN Burak located at Boulevard Point in Downtown Dubai.
The new Turkish-Middle Eastern restaurant is the first Dubai-based establishment for Chef CZN Burak – who is hugely popular on social media with over 17 million followers – who already has three popular restaurants in Turkey, where he is from, and he has now decided to crack the Dubai F&B space.
Sheikh Hamdan was treated to an array of dishes on his visit to the restaurant’s opening day, all of which were personally cooked and prepared by Chef CZN Burak himself.
    Avli by tashas

The following day, on December 26, Sheikh Hamdan was then spotted at one of his favourite restaurants – Avli by tashas. Located in DIFC, the Crown Prince of Dubai has been spotted at the stunning spot on more than a few occasions.
Natasha Sideris is the brains behind these well-known café concepts in the emirate, offering stunning treasures from all around the world in her famous eateries. Passion and culinary creativity are evident throughout, guests can experience a world of flavours on the menu.
    The MAINE Land Brasserie

Rounding off his foodie tour of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan was seen dining at one of our absolute favourite hotspots, The MAINE Land Brasserie, on New Year’s Day. We couldn’t think of a better place to start off the year than this gem located at the ME Hotel in Business Bay.
Founded by top Dubai restauranteur Joey Ghazal, The MAINE Land Brasserie is the third instalment for the group in the last five years. Ghazal opened his first establishment in JBR – The MAINE Oyster Bar & Grill – in November 2015. Last year, Ghazal opened The MAINE Street Eatery in Studio City and then the stunning The MAINE Land Brasserie in June 2020.
With the vast success Ghazal has had, he’s set to open his first international brand for the MAINE Group in London later this year.
“We are quite advanced in our plans to open The MAINE in London, but obviously it all depends now on COVID-19,” Ghazal previously told EW. “We are actively considering the Far East and Saudi as well. We should have a clearer picture towards the end of the year, hopefully, by then we will be able to look back at this year with humility for what it has taught us.”
As a regular visitor to London, we wonder if Sheikh Hamdan will pop into the new MAINE branch when it opens (pandemic permitting).

The staggering amount of money involved in Kim K and Kanye West’s reported split

Celebrity power couple Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are reportedly separating after eight years together – six of which they have been married.
E! News broke the news that the pair – who first met back in 2002, but started dating in 2012 – are separating, but Kardashian hasn’t officially filed for divorce as of yet.

While both parties have remained silent on the reported split, neither confirming nor denying reports, it hasn’t stopped speculation about what’s at stake in their potential divorce in monetary terms.
According to Forbes, the couple have a combined net worth of $2.1 billion (Dhs7.7 billion). As individuals, West is worth an estimated $1.26 billion, while Kardashian has an estimated net worth of $750 million.

However, while the rapper is the wealthier of the two, the majority of his net worth is “tied up” in Yeezy, his clothing company, Forbes reports.
As for beauty mogul Kardashian, it’s estimated that $500 million of her net worth is also tied up within her makeup brand KKW Beauty. However, she also has amassed $250 million from her reality television show Keeping Up With the Kardashians, other brand partnerships and her partnership with Coty for KKW Beauty which is worth $200 million.
Kardashian and West also own property together including a home in Los Angeles, Miami and their Wyoming Ranches.
However, as E! News reported, no split has been officially confirmed as of yet, but the pair are separated.
The beauty mogul and the rapper “haven’t spent time together as a married couple in months” and have only spent time together with their four children – North, seven, Saint, five, Chicago, two, and 20-month-old Psalm.

“Kim knows the marriage is over,” a source told E!. “She’s known for a while.”
As to exactly why Kardashian hasn’t officially filed for divorce as of yet, she just wants to be sure she’s “making the right decision for the kids”, according to the publication.
And while the source added that she’ll “always care for Kanye… [but] it’s over between them”.

Start the new year with this sustainable approach to luxury

January’s – ‘The Positivity Issue’ – Download Now
Reinvention is a smart, sustainable approach to luxury. We spoke to Partner & Chief Technical Officer of The Cobbler – Morgan Papin about breathing new life into leather goods.
What do your first 30 mins of the day look like, your morning routine?
On waking up I do a 30 minute stretching and bodyweight exercise. Then I head to the shower, after checking the news and emails followed by a fresh and healthy breakfast and then it’s time to go to the workshop!

What is at the heart of The Cobbler’s DNA as a brand and why was The Cobbler launched in the UAE?
Craftsmanship, heritage, expertise and passion are some of the key DNA principles of The Cobbler. These have been our driving force since day one and still drive us today. We believe that is what customers recognize in our work.

10 years ago there was a gap in the market for shoe repair and luxury gentlemen’s footwear at an accessible price-point. People were taking their bags and shoes back to their home countries as they couldn’t get them fixed the way they wanted here in the UAE. This is how the concept of The Cobbler began.
Do you have any mentors or guides and how does this help navigate the right path?
I’m lucky enough to be surrounded by people who are smart, successful and knowledgeable in the field. So, when I face a situation, I always have the right experienced person to turn to for advice and that has been the best guide especially during rough times like the one we experienced during this challenging year.
You operate a bespoke approach and can restore as well as re-invest pieces- tell us about this service?
It’s about bringing a second life to an item you love. Most well-crafted items can be restored and repaired. That’s the magic about it, to bring back to life items that were once damaged and to see the happiness in each customer’s eye once the items are ready
What’s the most exciting overhaul you’ve ever given a piece?
A limited-edition bag from Dolce & Gabbana that was completely burned including the handles and the front flap. We had to replace them entirely, but the only way was to disassemble the bag completely and then to reassemble it the same way as in their factory. Sourcing the right material, copying the grain, reproducing the stitching and thread –it was hard and stressful, but the result was great, and the customer couldn’t stop thanking us, which was wonderful.
How should we be looking after leather / exotic skins ourselves?
Never wear a pair of shoes to days in a row, the leather is a living skin that needs to rest always one day. Protect your items from direct light and humidity. Nourish your leather once in a week with a Saphir Medaille d’or Lotion and polish them if necessary. Exotic skins can be extremely fragile, and we recommend our customers to leave them in the hands of our highly skilled experts.
Which colourways/designs have been most popular, and do you see patterns and trends emerging in the market?
Well in the last 10 years, shoes and handbag are now produced in any kind of materials. And as craftsmen, we’ve had to adapt to these creative demands.
What does luxury mean to The Cobbler?
Luxury is about a unique experience that brings you joy and allows you to relive memories. Transforming pre-loved pieces and giving them a second chance at life is at the heart of the brand’s DNA. Reviving traditions, craftsmanship and passing it on to younger generations is integrated as luxury experience at The Cobbler.
How do you approach client engagement and retention?
Customer experience is paramount to us. We want our customers to be able to engage with our experts wherever they are, which is why we have enacted a digital transformation. In addition to visiting our shops, our customers can now shop through our online platform and book a free pickup & delivery for their items to be repaired. This can also be done over the phone through our customer care desk. We are putting all our efforts in creating the most seamless and pleasant experience for our customers.
How has social media affected building The Cobbler?
It is amazing to be able to communicate quickly and easily with our audience. Social Media is a perfect tool to drive the brand’s awareness and is also an efficient way to engage with our customers, to reply quicker to their queries. It is the heart of our communication.

Which Instagram accounts do you follow for inspiration?
ParisianGentleman, YoheiFukuda, Cifonelli, The Rake, Permanentstylelondon
What advice would you give to your younger self starting out?
Take notes and embrace all the knowledge you can! I always thought I would remember everything, but I learnt that even the greatest forget things. So now as much as possible I write down things to not forget.
If you were not at The Cobbler which another role would you choose career-wise?
Shoes have been my life since I was 16 and craftsmanship is a way of life, being able to transform raw material into an item that brings a smile on a customer’s face is priceless. I’ve always been interested by the complexity of wood so I would have loved to be a carpenter, I think.
This issue is ‘The Positivity Issue’ – how do you stay positive?
Thanks first goes to my wife, she supports and inspires me every day. Secondly, a healthy, active lifestyle, spending as much time as possible outdoors. I also love to discover and learn new things – it’s important to never get bored and always keep progressing.
